Now no one will ever have an easy way to learn what 'old' smells like.

Stag's Head is inside a strip center on property owned by H-E-B. As of yet there are no plans for the Texas supermarket giant to put in a new location. They've opened up two new locations nearby within the past three years.
"Something is happening but they won't tell me," Holliday said. " They seem to be very secretive."

Great location for mid/high rise residential or mixed use.

Which means it will either be an HEB, CVS, or Mattress store.

Don't think HEB will open 1/2 mile away from one and a mile away from another.

Like Kroger. But they are going to tear down the brand new Kroger on Studemont, anyway.

Yeah, I wouldn't make that investment, but with the HEB on Dunlavy always packed and the 8-story Susanne apartments opening across the street, it wouldn't be the craziest idea ever.

No, it's going to get torn down so a bigger store can be built.

Why not tear down one of the ****ty ones nearby and build another nice one...or just not have 3 Krogers within a 2 mile radius

I can see them having that Studemont store because there aren't any good options south of the freeway in that area.

I'm interested to know what they (HEB) are doing with this space.

I thought something was imminent when they forced Mykonos out in the late '00s, but they have just left that place vacant.

Strange

id heard HEB had a perpetual option or something like that on it - strictly to ensure Kroger never went there...

Does HEB also own the building that houses Freebirds/Amy's Ice cream that is more or less on the same piece of property?

I know Google Maps shows that it's split by Portsmouth, but I wouldn't think that the building/property housing Stagg's Head is big enough on it's own to do much more with.

The map shows it to be split by Portsmouth but that area in between is all parking lot. Though even if they did own the Freebirds/Amy's building And were to tear down the whole lot, I don't think there would be enough parking for a new HEB there, unless they were to build over a garage like Randall's in Midtown.

That Kroger sucks compared to the heights option on 11th.

I haven't found another grocery store with as good of a craft beer selection as the Kroger on 11th. Plus they have a good selection of prime steaks as well. I've got no complaints.

Yeah, I don't mind the newer Krogers. Not as good as HEB but probably the next best thing.
