My parents downsized to a fancy apartment over Montrose way and don't want to cram everyone in there for Christmas Eve dinner, so I'm looking for a place in Htown that would be good for an early dinner (around 5 p.m.) that's open Christmas Eve for 5 adults, a 12-year-old and two nearly 3-year-olds.

TIA

We did Pregos in the Village once and it was great. Easy parking so no valet.

They had a 3-story townhouse off Memorial Drive, and moved to a one-floor apartment next to the place that burned down a few months ago.

The price point is not a big deal - we have 3 kids with us, we're not going to be there for 3 hours.

Ah, reliving college days.

Anyway, if price isn't an issue and you want to hurt after, Nelore Churrasca. There's also Damian's if you want Italian and to feel like the youngest person in the restaurant.

Hugo's is my favorite in the area. 3-6-9 Asian Bistro is also very good and underrated.

The area isn't that big a deal, I was looking more for places that are open Christmas Eve without having to call every single place. But thanks for all the tips thus far.

Another question - are you just going to dinner, or are you specifically looking for traditional Christmas fare (turkey, etc.)?

If just going to dinner, I'd say El Real for a group that big, with kids.

Second vote for Hugo's around Montrose area, if I do recall. Nice, upper scale Mexican food (fyi not Tex-Mex). We went there Christmas Eve and it was very nice.

We have done Maggiano's in the past for a family holiday dinner. The last couple of years we have gone to Yao's. Both serve family style and are pretty kid freindly while still having a nice atmosphere.

We did Frank's Americana Revival last year for Christmas Eve. It was great!

I think I might suggest Hugo's, I read a great thing about their hot chocolate in Texas Highways last year. Thanks!

Drive up Montrose to the Heights and try Liberty Kitchen at Studemont and 11th.

I would suggest Artisans Restaurant.

3201 Louisiana St, Houston, TX 77006
713-529-9111

Give them a call and see if they are open on Christmas Eve. Loved their food and Chef Jacques is one of the best. He used to work here in Bryan at Miramont and opened his own place in Houston.

odd that they would be closed on Christmas Even. Isn't that a pretty huge night for restaurants?

I'll call my parents and let them know some guy from Texags wants us to break out 45-year tradition.

I've done Backstreet Cafe (Shepherd near Dallas) with family on a handful of Christmas Eves and have not been disappointed. Great menu, wine list, and atmosphere for the occasion.

Also an excellent choice. The roasted duck and lamb stew are amazing.

We had Christmas Eve dinner at Damian's in their private room. The whole family including a handful of 2-5 year old grandkids. Worked really well.
