Was with at The Med around 1 p.m. today and "Code Red" was announced over the loud speaker. Lights went to flashing and nurses/staff closed all the doors and blocked the entrances from 1st floor to upper floors. Just curious if anyone knows what "Code Red" means?

Typically a child abduction or a person that could be a threat to other patients and staff.

It was a drill. If a real fire alarm the fire dept. would have showed up no matter what. Hospitals have to do so many per shift and area per year.

A little off topic, but they did an alarm test at Kyle Field last week just after all the concession stand volunteers had gotten to our stands. The automated voice told us to depart the building. In school those were always a fun break. At Kyle, it means walking ALL that way back outside then, ALL that way back to our stands. Sounds like no big deal, but we already stand for 10 to 12 hours doing that work. (pity parties welcome)

On Code Pinks....

When we had our first kid at the Med - almost 13 years ago, they had a chip they put in the baby's sock. If it went anywhere near an elevator, it would set off an alarm - and anyone "not actively engaged in saving a life" was to stop and make sure no-one was stealing a baby. The nurse told us it went off from time to time when cleaning folks forgot to remove the chip from a sock or bedding.

When our second was born - 9 years ago - they'd switched to bracelets that play a song when baby's bracelet matched up with mom's or dad's bracelet.

It always seemed to me that this was a very high priority for them.
