There seems to be an issue with our laptop. Has anyone used someone in the area that does reliable repair on a laptop? I think it is some type of virus.

Format and reinstall everything. It be like brand new!
That may be the best idea. My sister is helping him tonight. If that fails, we will need further assistance.
I don't know if you're a current student or not, but DO NOT go to the on campus center for computer repairs. Two stories short:
1. Computer wouldn't boot, took it in, told me I needed a new hard drive. Spent some $$, lost all my files.
2. Same problem two years later, take it, they say the same thing. F that. I pull everything off the drive, then reinstall Windows, then put everything back. Worked like new.
While there are some very knowledgeable and skilled student workers employed there, you may get one that isn't. There's no reliable way to tell.
I hope your problem is able to be fixed without outside help.

Dunno what the regs are these days. I'm way out of the loop. Suggest Best Buy or one of the local shops if anyone needs service these days.
