Texas Task Force 1 (TX-TF1) is about to hold their annual Operational Readiness Exercise (ORE) at Disaster
City, April 24-26. We are looking for 300+ volunteers for one of the
largest exercises ever at the world famous facility. With 24 hour operations,
time slots are available even throughout the overnight hours.

Can young kids (6yo) volunteer? Sounds like fun with my son. Otherwise, can we just come watch?

Minors can participate as long as a parent or guardian is there also. It is a great thing for youth (and adult) organizations. Our volunteer program helps make the training as realistic as possible. Most don't understand the direct impact it has on the quality of the exercise and the end result of making a difference for responders and the people who need them.

Keep in mind, DC volunteering is not for everyone: lying on rubble with real rebar pieces randomly coming out in places, in an enclosed hidden space in near total darkness for upwards of 3 hours may not be for you.

Yes, it is not for everyone. However, we do our best to fit our needs with your comfort level. For this exercise, we have 2, 3 & 4 hour shifts. The 2 hour shift is in the overnight hours though. That's right! 24 hour operations for this exercise!
