Sounds like an oversize load hit the bridge. Might be a mess for quite a while.
Sounds like they will shut Wellborn until they determine the integrity of the bridge.

While you're at it, avoid 2818 between Texas and 6. A wreck has caused them to route traffic in both directions into a neighborhood.

Thanks for the heads up, carpe. I was about to head that way in a few minutes.

Saw it going home westbound. Traffic was already gnarly at 4:45. I can't imagine it right now.

It's a mess, and residual wrecks are cropping up - saw one at the 4-way stop at Agronomy and F&B around 5:15, and heard sirens stop around F&B & Wellborn a few minutes ago.

Glad I left work when I did. Live out by traditions.

I have a feeling it will stay bad until 7-8pm.

If they find significant bridge damage it will stay bad for a few weeks.

that bridge looks to be pretty old to begin with, it's such an eye sore coming into CS

Both sides of the Wellborn/University bridge were open this morning. A train was going by very slowly on the train side (which had about a 4" hit from the excavator) with a train official riding on the back radioing to the guys on the side. I guess they're still checking that area out with load on it (was a few tankers, and some larger cargo cars).

Around 5:15 we ended up having to drive through there, and we were being rerouted through west campus to get back onto Wellborn.
