I'm no sushi critic, I like Kroger sushi. Just to put my opinion into perspective.

The best I have had in town was 40 tempura. It was great.

I have eaten at a handful of others around town and liked most all of them as well though.

Agreed. I haven't had bad sushi, just depends on how fancy I want to go that day. I do like Atami but frequent HEB more.

40 Tempura is hands down the best.

Does 40 tempura have anything without avocado? Or atleast allow your to have it left out. I havnt been there.

American sushi, or real sushi?

Ate at Imperial Chinese (formerly Tony Romas) last Saturday. My Chinese was great and those in my party who ordered the sushi loved it. Good service and the food was very creative and pretty!!!

Do you order spaghetti at Mexican restaurants, too?

(To be clear, some other places are fine, and I happily eat at them -- including from HEB. But "best"? Come on.)

Azure Fusion next to Luigis is definitely worth trying out if your hunting for great sushi.

Aji Sushi is quite nice. I've spent too much time in Japan to take queries like this seriously...spoiled for life now.

However, the style of sushi OP wants effects the answers

My preference is:

Aji Sushi
Naked Fish
40 Tempura
Kamei
Azure
Atami

Any place that sells sushi in a grocery or buffet setting does not deserve mention. Oh, and neither does Imperial. Their sushi was disgusting.

HEB for quick sushi, Tempura 40 IMO for a sit down meal.

I feel ya there, but ya gotta take into context where you are. Sort of like finding the best Mexican food in Maine. Ya gotta go with what ya got.

40 Tempura, hands down.

Aji Sushi, Kampei, Azure, and 40 Tempura all will get the job done.

Don't have to go that far to have a higher standard. If you know where to go there is outstanding sushi in Houston.

While I would love to go there, I think I will never get a chance to eat at Jiro's 3 star Michelin place in Tokyo. I haven't spent any time in Japan to know how good the average place is, but I once sat with a Japanese businessman on a bus from LaGuardia to downtown NYC. He swore that the sushi was better in California because of the quality of the rice.

Azure by far.

I worked on commercial tuna boats. We ate sushi for all three meals and snacks. We only used the tenderloin and threw it away after one day. I'd estimate that I've eaten $100k worth of sashimi.

Back on topic, I think Kamei is best in town.

Aji is my vote.

I second Veritas for the best. Kamei is very good, also, and tempura 40. To me, they have been consistently very good.

Kamei, is the one I like the best.
