The wait for an appointment can be up to six months if you call, unless you want something cosmetic. One of my doctors called around and got me into a PA in two days. They had a lot more "pull" than I did.

Seems like every month the same question about dermatologists is asked.

The choices haven't changed in years.It depends on how long you want to or can wait. There are four offices. Depends on your problem, how long you have had it, and how much other stuff you have tried. I recommend calling around. Their schedule and your schedule could make the decision for you.

I've seen them all over the years. Funny thing is that I was able to self-refer to MD Anderson and get in faster there than than to any of the local derms. In no particular order....
Terry Jones was my first derm in town. Not sure that he is still practicing but I kept getting to see his PA rather than Dr. Jones so I switched to Maria Childs.
Maria Childs practices with her husband, James Childs, who is also derm. Both are very good but had long wait times even for existing patients. Maria Childs was diligent in helping me with an unusual skin issue and I did like her and her husband.
Jason Weaver is youngest/newest derm in town and offered the quickest appt times. He is a nice guy and good doc.
Scott & White has Drs. Rachel Moore (looong wait times) and Bruce Hoekstra, who is not a derm but a family doc who specializes in derm issues. My MD Anderson doc speaks highly of Rachel Moore, who did some training at MD Anderson.
It would depend on why you are seeking a derm but if it was something complex, I would get my family doc to get me in to see Moore asap and if not complex or life threatening, I'd go see Weaver.

Dr Reedy, Dr Jones PA is great. Very knowledgable and takes the time to explain things. Easy to get appt with. If need immediate attention, highly recommend
+1 Rachel Moore, REALLY long wait though. Worth it.
Dr Jones is still practicing and wait is not very long to get appt. Reedy is his PA. Both my daughter and I have seen Dr Jones recently without any scheduling issues.
I have seen Dr James Childs in the past and he is excellent--moved very quickly on what turned out to be a basal cell carcinoma. But the appointment waits got to be really long.

Jason Weaver is very good and the wait times aren't very bad. He's pretty quick to biopsy anything that looks the least bit questionable. Put my mind at ease a couple of times this year.

Agree with this. Had as good experience with Reedy when time was an issue and needed a questionable mole checked our. Got in quickly and he was great.
But I had already scheduled an initial visit with Weaver (two month wait for new patients) because I wanted to establish a permanent relationship with a Derm and heard he was good, and I was very pleased with my initial visit with him too. There are not enough Derms in this town but they all seem to be pretty good.

I have seen Dr. Jason Weaver a few times over the past month - good guy, good doctor. He referred me directly across the street to The Woodlands Skin Surgery Center - Dr. Cook-Noris - took care of some MOHS surgery - outpatient for me, also a good guy and a good doctor.
Dr. Weaver took care of some matters, Dr. Cook-Norris took care of the others.
On a related note, I was at the cardiologist's office shortly thereafter, and some of the staff I dealt with were patients of Dr. Weaver and had nothing but good things to say about him.

FYI - I just got an appointment with Rachael Moore this week. Last time, it was a 3 month wait. Now, the soonest apt I could get is in the middle of AUGUST! LOOONG wait time. I scheduled it, but man...

Dr. Hokestra at SW has been awesome! I started Accutane a month ago and I'm SO happy I did! Amazing results!
You can get in most likely with hokestra sooner. He's just as good. He just doesn't have a "Derm" behind his name, but he's a skin specialist but has been in the Derm dept at SW for years. He is awesome! I got in within a week.

That's why I bumped it instead if starting another one
The people of Tex Ags know more about dermatologists in the area than any other subject in the world.
I get the feeling that there are those who may be using this overworked topic for issues other than general info. Like maybe a vested interest at a specific locale. Just a guess.
