Christopher's. Hands down.

They are not strictly comparable. Republic is a combination fancy whiskey bar and steakhouse. Christopher's is a "fancy restaurant" with a more eclectic menu. What are you looking for?

Both are way overrated. Unfortunately, there aren't many options. Riviera and Maddens are better but Maddens has a limited menu.

Under rated option here.

I've had very good and very bad meals at Messina Hof. I only risk it about once a year now.

Cocoamoda in Calvert has great weekend dinners. Set menu so call ahead and make reservations if it strikes your fancy...or your fancy's fancy.

They have a new chef at Messina Hof. Paul was well aware of the inconsistency and has fixed the problem.

Everything in the Brazos Valley begins and ends with The Republic.
Spend way too much money there but enjoy every minute of it.
Never dreamed that CS would have a restaurant like this.
Food, service, ambience, bar, drinks are out of the park.

Was at the Republic last night and, yes, the service, atmosphere, etc. is fine. But, for the third time in a row, I had a tough, overcooked steak. I'm a dumbass for ordering steak there. Look at the menu prices. These are not the prices for top-notch prime beef.

Of the upper end places in BCS, my wife and I prefer Maddens.

It's only 100 minutes to Uchi's in Austin from my house. Ate there Saturday night...without reservations!

Veritas remains my go to local restaurant, and Maddens is great, too. The food is consistently good and the people are fantastic. We hit Republic a coupla times a year, but I can buy and prepare better steak at home, so that is not something we typically will dine out for.

Did I mention how fantastic Uchi's was?

Also discovered Mai Thai past Bastrop on 71 towards Austin. Nothing to look at, in small strip center next to the Shell station, but the food was incredible. Hole in the wall...best Tom Yum soup I've EVER had anywhere.

I love Republic, but I usually get the lamb.
