Re Snook--- Czech-Tex is closed, but Slovacek's makes these tasty things Tues-Sat. And yes I know "sausage kolaches" ain't a kolache, but they are also dang good.

Curious, as I havent found any really good ones yet. Snook and Calvert have some worth driving for.

I'm sure I'll get flamed for this but I've had the kolaches from Slovacek in Snook and as far as I'm concerned, Kolache Rolf's are just as good and a heck of a lot closer.

Great business idea if someone is looking for something that would sell.

Criteria:

Open 7 days a week
Made fresh. Day old stuff is sold 75% off
List ingredients used (avoid 5 gallon buckets of cheap fillers)

The best are made by somebody's grandmother that has been making them for the last 50+ years. Those can't be beat!!!!!!

goto Weikels Bakery in Lagrange.
No its not in Brazos County but one Saturday morning just drive over there and grab some.
wanna stay closer to BCS area then checkout Zamykal Kolaches in Calvert.

Snook Bakery was the best around for years but they are gone now.

feel sorry for anyone that thinks places like kolache rolfs has good kolaches. they are terrible and way overpriced.

Zamykal is good. There are also some good ones in West (not sure what county that is) and in Caldwell.

Well, heck. If you are even considering driving to LaGrange for kolaches, scrap that idea and head over to Czech Stop in the town of West, TX. Well worth the drive and the line you usually have to stand in!

Weikels is better than Czech stop.
Czech stop may not even be the best in West.
It's a tourist attraction.

And this is where you need to put down the beer and head to bed. You have clearly had too much to drink already. Weikels isn't even close unless your favorite part of the kolache is the dough.

Your comments lead me to believe you have never actually been to either place.
You just read about how great Czech stop was in a texas monthly magazine or something.
Don't get me wrong, Czech stop is not bad( although I have had some items there that just were not any good) its just not near as good as its commercialized to be.

Travel to La Grange. Weikels has great Kolaches.

And Aggie, my Dad '50 is from La Grange so I didn't need a travel magazine.

We bought some today from Green's Sausage House in Zabcikville, TX (~1h away), and we thought they were very good. Not Brazos county, but not too far away.

This is all personal preference. I know a few years back (2011 or 2012) I had a project in La Grange and was not a fan of that Weikels bakery.

Greens has good stuff too but not on the level of the good shops in the state. There is a reason the sign says greens sausage house. That said imo they have the best sausage in the state.

Also czech stop in west is good too but Wiekels is better. In fact to me Weikels is top 2 or 3 in the state.
