It's GameDay Ags and I'm back in Ol' Mexico with DVM97 and VoreMoar12. Got a late start on this trip post.

We've been here since Thanksgiving Day and while camp life has been its usual mix of outstanding food and even better smack-talking, it has been warmish and the deer are less than excited about it. On a high note, DVM97 has broke out his safari short shorts. Cute.

VoreMoar12 brought along his full collection of orange Astros hunting shirts...because orange is apparently the new camo.

Mrs. AgLawman also made it into camp this weekend ...without her Louis Vuitton deer hunting luggage. Something about the cartels stealing her LV gear. However, she did not leave her Chanel cover scent at home.

We are fortunate to have another TexAgs member and his son in camp with us. AgingCowboy decided to brave the wilds of the great State of Mexico and try to get his son on son's first deer. Since y'all know how we roll down here, you know that AgingCowboy Jr. has been successful. Pics to follow.

Stay tuned...

I'm pretty sure this is bad cover scent.

It's a pretty well known fact that deer can't see the color salmon. As proven here:

We have a cull buck down, first deer, one shot dropped him. Coyotes have been evading Aglawman, but he's been determined to dent the population. I will say this, we eat like kings when we are here.

A young man's first deer...and did the ranch a favor making a clean, one-shot kill on this old monarch of the brush. This afternoon, AgingCowboy Jr. is in the high rack with VoarMore12 at an area we call Javi after his second deer of the day and career.

It's a balmy 92 degrees with bluebird skies here in northern Nuevo Len, Mexico and I'm in a pop up blind with Mrs. AgLawman. She's upset with the heat. Her t-shirt material is unacceptably thick. Her phone is about to die. And she may run out of water.

On the bright side, we are in an area that we affectionately named Marky Mark in honor of a dear father to one of the lease members and a friend to all of us. Mark loved this blind cuz it's loaded with trophy deer most of which are a year or two away from trotting off into the great sendero in the sky.

RIP M.E. And please send a deer out to keep Mrs. AgLawmans attention.

AgingCowboy and DVM97 are on coyote patrol this afternoon.

I suspect they will be back at camp by 6 to watch the Ags BTHO lsu...with or without song dogs!!!!

This has to be the strangest OB Hunt thread of 2019.

Some awkward combo of humble brags, wife talk with no respect for Rule 1, straight up brags, meh photos, semi live hunt updates, weather B & moaning, and potential dehydration.

Strange.
AgLawman

PFG, that's prolly a decent description. But it's been a bit forced trying to get the deer to cooperate in the heat. But we are outdoors. And if I comply with Rule 1, we are too far from Nuevo Laredo Memorial to take a stabbing in my sleep.

I dig the "Proud Supporter" of CFF sticker in the UTV. I know VM12 is in the CF fold, is the rest of the hunting crew supporters of CF eradication as well? If so, thank you, and if not, hop on board, we'd love to have y'all. Happy hunting!!

If she were my wife, surely, I would have suggested the removal of such an offensive garment....

After all, then the wind could blow directly on her skin performing evaporative cooling. Do you not care a bit about your wife's health?

Man, we had a great trip with some great ags!

Me and my boy got up early Friday and drove down to Laredo. We met up with DVM97 at the Academy in Laredo. He pulled up like this:

He was wearing shorts and nearly knee high boots, I didn't know what to think but I figured "Hey, we met on the internets, I'm sure it will be fine." So we jumped in and he got us through the border crossing without any major issues. He did have to bribe an aggressive pan-handler with a breakfast taco when we were stuck at a stoplight.

We made it to the ranch. The gate-opening was fairly minimal and handled by my son, so that was all good. We got to the house and met AgLawman, his wife and Voremoar12. Good people. Everyone (except the wife) wore the same uniform: shorts, t-shirts and high boots. I felt like I had walked into a giddingsag live hunt thread, just with less beer, more deer and we actually saw some pigs while we were there.

The weather was warm but the scenery was great there was an abundance of wildlife.

One of our setups:

These javelina kept getting closer and closer. Wished I'd brought my bow.

DVM97 said this was a "green jay". Never seen one and not sure its a real thing, but cool looking bird. Not a great pic:

My boy was able to shoot a couple of great deer. One shown earlier in the thread, then this buck as well. Voremoar12 was nice enough to guide my boy into this beauty. One man's "management buck" was this young man's trophy and he was pretty excited about it all. As you can see he quickly adopted the camp dress code.

There may have been some boasting earlier on this thread about the quality of the cooking, but I'm here to say it was all true. We ate like kings every meal, until we were full and then some. Great trip. Enjoyed meeting some awesome guys. Among many memories, one I'll cherish is falling asleep Saturday night to the sound of AgLawman cussing out DVM97 about who plugged the toilet.

If any of ya'll get a chance to hunt with these jokers I'd recommend it. We're hoping to do the same again in the future.

That blind in the first pick must only be 3 ft tall if DVM has to bend over in it.

It's a bottom base of a tower blind laid on its side. We're in the process of putting up some really nice blinds, but Manny thought wrapping it in that material would work as a makeshift blind. It worked, but me & AgLawman had a good head scratch as we drove by it.

In the end, it was my rig that I posted about earlier this year (seen below) that provided the proper cover and comfort for success. It was a really fun trip, as always, and agingcowboy & acjr. were great guests. We always look forward to having more of you looking to take the adventure in camp. It's just as much about the fellowship and memories made as it is about killing nice deer.

I'm headed back this weekend with a husband and wife team that are coming in for a management hunt, we have "fat albert" on the hit list and an old 10 VoreMoar12 got some good pics of last week. The deer killed this weekend were nice and fat, good to see the cotton seed helping keep these guys healthy. I'm looking forward to adding protein pellets to the cotton seed this spring and adding two more feed pens to areas that need attention. VoreMoar12 has been hunting a feeder we call "Javi" after the ranch cowboy. This feeder was put up last season and I bet was hunted twice last season. This part of the ranch had not had a good road to it in over 15 years, the landowner had lots of road work done 3 years ago to improve his fencing and cattle operation, this opened up several areas of the ranch that are now huntable. The "chapel feeder" is another area that was completely inaccessable until last year, we finally got a feed pen in there this summer and have seen some nice deer. It's been a fun season seeing deer and hunting areas that have never been hunted regularly. More pics to come!

Not trying to derail the thread as the pics and stories are all fantastic, but wondering about location. Are you close to this?

No, we are off a major highway, no dirt roads or multiple gates to go through. Hundreds of 18 wheelers and thousands of cars run by our front gate daily.
