At least that is what I hoope it is! The FIL thought it was a shot put because he figured there would be no way a cannon ball of age would be in this condition. I cleaned it up a little and found the inscriptions.
I have heard stories of cannon balls being found and unexploded ordnance demo experts being sent in to demolish the find, so I wont give away the location... as I would like to keep this relic, if I can do so safely.
Any OB'ers have any further info on this for me? It was found about 50 yards from the Clear Fork of the Brazos River near a low water crossing. This area was covered with Indians, settlers, and US Army posts in the 1850's. It was in the side of the flood water bank, burried completly in the dirt.
