Twc/spectrum TV service?

Left the Frontier mess and switched to dish - big mistake. Hate the interface, even as a nonvideophile I think the picture is poor. Regreted it the second day.

At the time of ditching Frontier, I switched to twc for Internet. Have been happy with it

Got a sales/cs call today from spectrum trying to get my TV service. Guy was actually not pushy, so I did not hang up immediately as is my norm. He let me know they are buying out contracts {plus to me} and tried to sell their services.

I had briefly looked at twc for TV when I did my switch, but it seemed their technology was lacking. The rep said thing had been upgraded.

So my question is for people that have twc/spectrum TV. How is the picture? How is the interface? We watch mostly sports and typical family channels. Record a fair amount and watch from different TVs enough for it to matter.

Looks like we could save quite a bit, and they say they require no contract (though s minimum time requirement would not surprise me if they buy out dish.)

Image quality won't be nearly as good as what you had on Frontier/FIOS and the interface is worse than what you have with Dish. The only way around the ****ty interface is to get Tivo or some other third party system.

Been using a Tivo Bolt for the past 6 months with TWC/Spectrum. No complaints.

Do you have a Hopper?
Are you viewing only the HD channels (this is an option in the guide).

I'm trying to understand your issues. Dish's interface (on the Hoppers, at least) is miles better than TWC. I've had both and saw no discernible difference in the HD experience, but different TVs could be a contributing factor, as mine upscales. Also, when I gave TWC a shot, their multi room DVR experience was garbage and wasn't a complete whole home DVR (limited functionality).

It's been about 2 years, so maybe you'll have better luck. If you don't like Dish, you might as well give something else a try. If you're willing to pay for TiVo, I'd highly recommend it over a cable co supplied DVR though. Get one of the new boxes and a couple of the TiVo minis and you'd be good to go.

I'll let you know what my Spectrum service/quality is like tomorrow. Just got rid of Frontier and ordered TWC Spectrum to be installed tomorrow

have always been on TWC - 10 years at old house, 6 years at this house. Never had any real issues. I called a couple of weeks ago about how much my bill was, and with the move to Spectrum they moved me to a Spectrum plan that is essentially the same, but lowered my bill $50/month.

IDK my bill went up 50+ dollars with the switch to spectrum so they will be receiving an annoyed phone call from me later.

Cool.

Found out my neighbor has the cable cards a tivo system. Was over there for the Tenn game and his picture is better than mine. (could be his new tv......)

Thought I might try out the "new" equipment they said they hzve and if I don't like ti switch to the Tivos.

I had TWC for internet since I moved back to San Antonio in 2012. I've had the 200 Mbps internet for the last couple of years and the price started going up this past summer. I called to inquire and the guy told me I was on a promotion and that's why the price went up. He said it would go up again in 9 months. We went back and forth for a few minutes about me not being on a promotion and I asked what I could do to lower my rate, other than switch to another carrier. He said I could downgrade my service to a lower cost (and speed) Spectrum plan or switch to another carrier. Those were my only options.

I now have AT&T Gigapower with Gigabit speeds for the same price TWC was charging me for 200 Mbps. I am also consistently getting high speed with AT&T where my speed fluctuated quite a bit with TWC/Spectrum. Kind of glad it all went down.

Yeah that's pretty par for the course for TWC. I expect I will just call, threaten to cancel, get elevated to a retention specialist, and then continue to pay my current rate in the end.

I wish ATT had gigapower here, they papered the whole damn town about how it was coming last summer but then they only rolled it out in highland park of all ****ing places...

I considered calling his bluff and going straight to retention, but figured I'd check my alternatives first. When I saw what AT&T was offering, I jumped on that and canceled TWC the afternoon after my AT&T install. Very happy so far, but now I don't know what to do with all of this Netgear stuff (modems and routers) I accumulated from the Free Tech thread.

Still pending. Ran into problems with the contractor they used for installation (twc wouldn't allow self install).

At 2:46pm I get a text and gps tracker telling me the tech is on his way with a 5min ETA. I watched the tracker because I was excited to see the tech was running ahead of time, thats almost unheard of! Unfortunately, he pulled a u-turn and appeared to go to a restaurant for a sit down meal.

Finally, after calls to TWC to figure out wtf is happening, he showed up at 420 for my 3-4 appointment. After about 5 mins he said he was going down to his truck to grab my equipment, the DVR. He didn't return till 510 and said something along the lines of, "sorry, I can't find the place your apartment complex maintenance had told me where the lines are supposed to be... So, I can't connect your service"

At this point I'm still convinced the guy was either a damn moron or intentionally trying to get fired. Regardless, they have a PPW out for my apt but that crew has never called. Thankfully I have a tech coming at 8am Saturday morning and, with any luck, he should be far more competent since it is doubtful they even need to run a line since it is already wired!

I'm not yet faulting or doubting TWC since these are foolish contractors. Plus, they rightfully refunded the installation fee and credited my first month of cable. I had only one bad experience with their customer support. However, that was immediately followed with the very knowledgeable and helpful agent who gave me the refunds. To note, I did receive survey calls after my phone calls. I'm really hoping that they do take pretty close track of that feedback because I've been impressed with how quickly you get connected to them and the agents want to help (besides for the one bad apple)

That sucks.

Guess I got lucky, the guy who did my Internet install was very good.

Count your blessings because I'm hearing about similar stories from my coworkers. Today's 8-9am appointment isn't looking too positive since their tracker is no longer working as a GPS tracker at all. Now we're at the tail end of the 8oclock hour and still no tech... I'm not feeling overly confident.

Well I'm proud to say that I was wrong in my doubts today. They sent two techs out and installed everything.

As far as picture quality, I can't tell any difference between spectrum and fios. Hate how my guide screen is set up in 4x3 and has a banner ad at the bottom. Really? I mean I'm paying to see your ads? No thanks.

Anyway, I'll see what I can do to change my guide settings but overall I'm satisfied and the picture quality looks normal. Can't determine what encoding is being used because I don't see much information in the settings menu

How's the DVr? How many channels can you record at once? Can you watch/control the DVr from Satellite units in other rooms?

The DVR I received is Motorola dcx3400. Only 2 HD recordings at a time. It isnt impressive. Don't know about satellite units bc I only have it in the living room.

If you're looking to get rid of a router, I might know someone who is looking for one...

Considering that ATT just finalized a bit to acquire TW, I'd run far, far away and go back to Frontier if you can.

The AT&T stuff is unrelated to TWC/Spectrum. Time Warner (the parent company) spun off Time Warner Cable several years ago, and TWC recently merged with Charter (combined entity now called Spectrum). AT&T is acquiring Time Warner, the former parent company of TWC that owns media houses like HBO.

Confusing? Definitely, but TWC/Spectrum subscribers aren't going to suddenly become AT&T customers again.
