iPhone storage

How long do you want to ignore this user?
I'm pretty tech savvy but my iPhone shows 54 Gb used in storage. If you go to setting and manage storage the math doesn't add up. It seems like I'm maybe using 10gb. I've searched ways to free space and found no good solutions. I know about deleting apps and pics and messages but those are trivial compared to the supposed amount I'm using. I've seen hooking up iPhone to iTunes and viewing other and then backing up and restoring. Is it possible "other "is holding 54 GB of storage. Any other ways to find where storage is? I don't really want to reset and restore.

Search this forum for similar threads, there have been several. Basically what happens is it stores messages that don't show up in storage. Best I remember the only way to remove them is a total reset of the phone. If you restore from a backup, it loads them all back in the phone.
