Yeah, it is. But you see what it really signifies is that we have ~200 years to develop a way to get to that planet before we all die a horrible fiery death, as is customary in most SciFi timelines.

Sadly, more folks are interested by Pokemon than by sending a probe there...

Maybe there's a way to data mine folks/provide a video game depending on funding such an attempt

I continue to be amazed how there are planets practically everywhere we look.

Kinda like they are system generated on the fly? Back to the bourbon.

Well, the caveat is that it's possibly earthlike. It could be tidally locked or have had its atmosphere blown away by solar radiation. There's also no telling if it has a protective magnetic field. Simply being in the habitable zone doesn't make a planet earthlike.

Although it's too early to state that this world is "Earth-like", as the presence of an atmosphere and water have yet to be shown

WTF?
And what does title of article read?
And what is this article about?
And what two characteristics would deem it "earth-like" they are not sure it even has?

This isn't one of those instances where the data we're getting is extremely old and if we were to ever "warp" "fold" or "hyperdrive" there only to find that the planet is now dead or not even there?

It's Proxima Centauri - in theory a probe could get there in 20 years.

No idea how we'd get at atmospheric analysis from a few light years away
