I know there is a lot of information on the internet, but other than the obvious (google), I don't really know where or what to read.

What can I build with a raspberry pi 3? Pretty sure I want to go the Pi 3 route for the wifi, but I don't know anything else.

Really only limited by your imagination.

One thing I thought would be cool, if I had the money to blow, would be to hook the Pi up to a 4G adapter, and then mount it on a quad-copter to control it via IP rather than a radio signal.

Cool, looks like someone already did it.

A coworker of mine used one of his older models to make a GPS equipped drone that would fly to a destination or set of waypoints rather than flying by controller. He even got the range up to about 10 miles or so

Not 100% certain as I'm a tech enthusiast, not a drone enthusiast, but the tech people I follow discuss drones frequently. Pretty sure this is illegal.

It's a lost opportunity that they didn't call it the Raspberry Pi 3.14

Or just Raspberry 3.14

It is, but it's still really cool. And the odds of getting in to any sort of trouble are pretty slim, unless you're being SUPER reckless.

I'm sure it is/was, I don't think he much cared. This was on the 1st gen Pi and was at about that time, so maybe 3-4 years ago? Not sure exactly.

Probably boring to most everyone, but I think I'm gonna start off with some simple (hopefully) like a web cam. I wasn't able to get through much reading today, but can you view your webcam from outside your network (work, phone etc)? If so, how is this done?

My office has no windows, so I've been thinking about using something like this to turn an old monitor into a 'window'. I think this is exactly what I've been looking for. Will report back in a few days.

Has anyone gotten their RP3 to work with Jessie and Motion? I'm stuck at sudo nano /etc/motion/motion.conf

Did you just do a Pi in a case with a bunch of ROMs or something more robust? I've been thinking it would be a fun project to make a full arcade cabinet with the Pi being the brains behind it.

Just Pi in a case for now. Hopefully future home will have space to build a full cabinet with some joysticks. This was my every into tinkering with the pi platform

I've been looking into building a front door camera with a motion sensor and take a snapshot and text it to me. One of these days....
