Anyone out there edit video?

Just looking for a general cost (assuming it's a cost/hr option)

Duration of video would be 2-3 minutes, maybe 5 minutes max.

TIA

It will vary a great deal depending on how much say you want in the editing process, the talent of the editor and the speed you need it edited.

I believe there are overseas companies that will edit videos on the cheap. I don't have any experience with that.

Thanks Guitarsoup

It would be for real estate sales (drone) so other than some overlay info entirely up to the editor's creativity

If it is a simple job of editing (like you described), it shouldn't cost that much. If you are looking for animation or advanced edits, the cost can increase rapidly.

My company does video editing and we would be happy to give you a free quote. That should give you a better idea of the cost. Just shoot us an email at info AT tadinnovations DOT com

We had someone edit together a wedding video for us and here is the invoice. It was mainly combining a bunch of photos and some GoPro video into a video we can watch later. Nothing too fancy, but still professionally done.

Just to give you an idea of the rates we were charged:

  • 12 hrs @ $75/hr for editing
  • 3 motion graphic animations @ $150 an animation
  • Storage fees per GB @ $1 GB

All told, it was about $1500.

"Wedding" is the magic word that increases the cost of anything

You should be able to find somebody for $50/hr, a normal rate for skilled work like plumbers, electricians, computer repair, etc. We had a guy do some video editing for one of our product demos, and he was paid $200 for 5 hours work. The video was about a 20 minute walkthrough showing the new site and the features, condensed into about 7 minutes with text overlays at times, and put to music. Very well done

That seems pretty high...

Probably is...but considering it was going to cost well over twice that much for a videographer at the wedding, we were ok with it.

Standard industry rates for professional editing is 100.00-150.00 per hour. You may find some that will do it for less but these are typical weekend "wedding" shooters that are hungry for other work. Some of these guys do great work. Be sure to always ask for samples of their work that is similar to your project. A good rule of thumb on how many hours it is going to take is about an hour for each finished minute.

While I would normally recommend you just go buy your own software and learn (cause it's easy to learn now-a-days), if it's for a business, I would also use a professional.

Eh, not really. A good wedding photographer is going to be a lot cheaper than a good commercial photographer.

There main thing on the cost of a wedding specialist in any profession is they have a very limited number of days they can be hired every year.

How long you want the video to be in the end doesn't factor into how I price projects.

Want a 2-3 minute video? I can do that in 5 minutes by randomly selecting a 2 minute chunk of video I like and rendering it out. Or it could take me an entire work week.

As with anything else, you're going to find a wide range of hourly rates or project fees depending upon how good (or ballsy) the editor is.

I second the suggestion of asking to see work that's similar to what you want done, giving them clear direction on what you expect, and having them give you a quote.
