So glad i dont have to worry about any of this. When I was a kid the worst thing I had to worry about was someone finding my stash of dirty magazines.

Also, you probably have less to worry about with a teen girl than a teen boy.

Not a parent, I work on the...down stream end of them getting in trouble. I would say that's a patently wrong assertion given recent trends. It's also not just bad kids that get in trouble, it's good kids who get bored and make jack ass decisions, coupled with unfettered access WAY to early, and parent's not keeping an eye on what they're doing/seeing/hearing. I'm sure my thread stalker will be along to blast me shortly with "you're not a parent!!!!!11!!! you don't know what you're talking about and don't get an opinion!!!!@12%#!^!@^$^!!!1111", just like he did on the AO thread talking about giving a child with a single digit age a smart phone with internet access, but I really don't care. I watch it with my mothers 3rd graders, and from my own work perspective, and see the damage allowing kids un-fettered access to the absolute idiots, and nut-bags, on youtube, reddit, and many other sights.

cro, it's not the porn I'd be worried about. Yes there is a risk of....warping perspectives, but hell even the kink scene is discussed openly in the MSM and on network television. It's the absolute idiotic crap that is most of the "entertainment" they run across I think does more damage. Go watch a pewdiepie style live stream sometime and lose a few IQ points with them.

Thanks. Any opinion on which is better, open dns or googles?
Google does not offer a DNS that is filtered.

Look up Circle by Disney. It is a hardware device that connects to the router.

I just got one and have only played with it a little, but so far I like it. Can set limits easily. Can control multiple devices networks access for the kid.

Best option I have found so far in my search for this type of control. Though still not perfect.
Bump on this. I want to know more if anybody else is using it.

Like I said, the principal IS a problem, but boys, and girls, got hold of pork long before the internet. What they didn't get was the predators, the social influences, and the brainwashing.

Little more detail I can give.

I had thought it was like an access point (which to my would be like a guest ssid type thing.) it is not.

It actually monitors or maybe would be considered a hardware firewall type thing for everything that connects to your network. Then you set up different rules and restrictions (preloaded or custom) for each circle or person. You can also set things to be not monitored at all. It picks up things on the main ssid and the guest ssid.

So my daughters phone, the family laptop she uses, her TV and it's cable box and the older family tablet she uses are all set to her circle.

There is a default Home circle. Another cool feature is that anything that come into the network new automatically defaults to the Home circle.

Since everyone of her friends want to be in the network when they come over, they show up (I have it set to tell me when something come onto the network) and I can either have the home network set to have to controls I want in place or I can identify and put their devices in her circle. To mimic her controls. Right now I have the home set up like her circle.

The app is pretty user friendly and allows easy ability to turn a device on or off as need outside the schedule.

Haven't had time to fully play with it, but the basic setup was quick and easy. I am hopeful that with the backing of Disney it will continue to improve and become more robust. Reviews suggest this has been the case so far.

Either way, for 89 bucks it was a pretty cheap easy control to implement for only what I have set up now. That easily controls network access for All her devices.

I think we'll try the Disney Circle

ONce again on the Circle by Disney, I'm thinking of trying it out. I did see some negative reviews on the Google App store, so I'm not sure how to approach that.

I did not look at reviews there. I looked at some on Amazon before buying. Overall they seemed positive.

The app and controls could be more robust. It is pretty simple/basic. But I have tried several different apps and controls and they all failed for various reasons. So in my trials, this has been the best option I have found.

If you are really router/network savvy, you could probably do most of what it does on the router. Even I managed to do some of the limits with my router before buying it. But it simplifies the interface and control and gives me the ability to turn things on or off from my phone (haven't tried doing it while my phone is not on the network) rather than going to my computer. And it can be done with a couple clicks, rather than multiple setting on the router.

There may be better options out there. But for the price paid, I am pretty happy with the easy control of the network access unilaterally for all her devices. The time scheduling, and that her friends will be on the same restriction (at least on the network) that she is.
