Wife is on Tmo

I'm on ATT

I'm up for a new phone, but don't really need a new phone but I would like to use my upgrade. Tmo doesn't do upgrades on her plan.

How risky is it to take an upgrade from ATT and give her the phone and go to one of the software unlockers? I've unlocked phones before from ATT to give to her several times, but always after contract ran out. This phone would basically be on day one of the contract.

if i am remembering correctly as long as the account is in good standing they will tend to unlock after 60 days, though that may have changed.

As far as going to to a place that unlocks phones if that model has been out a while i wouldn't be concerned.

What are you getting her? If it is an Android device the new moto x pure is cheap and well worth buying instead of burning an upgrade where you might need a new phone in the next 24 months.

you could also always buy used.
