I have had an Ooma since they first came out (5-6 years ago maybe?).

I know not everyone wants landline home phone service. But if you do, I highly recommend Oomas to get rid of the overpriced landline carriers. Quality is great - - they just work - - and they have a slew of features.

I have had an Ooma for more than a year and it is a very nice VoIP solution.

I pay the $1/mo fee for e911 (cost is $3/mo after taxes).

I think the monthly cost varies by location. I am grandfathered in as it used to be free. Now, you pay local taxes and fees only. Which should be $3 month.

How is this service compared to something like Magic Jack?

For anyone considering this, I highly recommend Ooma. I've used it for almost 6 years.

I don't know about Magicjack. I think the monthly fee with Magicjack is way higer, but frankly I don't know. I just know my Ooma just works.

Works pretty good for me, except the first one I got didn't work and I didn't install it for over a year after I bought it. So no warranty and had to pay full price for a new one. Now I've got one at home and one at work. I pay about $13 a month at home to get the premium service + 500 minutes calling to Mexico.

Good service if you have decent internet. Doesn't work well on AT&T DSL.

Yes, that is an option and they charge for it.....If I remember correctly it was a $30 charge and only took a few days (they warned it might be 10 days and only took 2 days).
