How long do you want to ignore this user?

I'm trying to get a nested IF function in a cell, but can't get it to work. I'm building a template for an analysis I'll be running often and just want formulas to be set up so when I import data or do a vlookup, much of what I'm looking for is populated.

Essentially, if cell A1=X, then Yes, if=Y, then No. I get that OK, but what's happening is that it's populating a "no" in blank cells, which could cause issues when I'm working with it. I'd like to have it set up that if the cell is blank, then the cell the IF function is in remains blank or gives me a -.

Can anybody help me? I've tried what I know and even looked at a few websites, but I keep getting a #NAME? error.

so it's basically =IF(A1=X,"Whatever","No")?

Could you do =IF(A1=X,"whatever",if(a1="","","No"))

That got it. I guess I was putting the blank ahead of the false. Thanks.

Edit: never mind, looks like you figured it out.
