Anyone know of any Microsoft plans to roll out a new version of Movie Maker? I think the last version is from 2012. I'd like something that works well with Windows 8. I was thinking about going ahead and buying the 2012 version, but didn't want to if something else was coming done the pipe.

Any other suggestions of other products that are reasonably priced without a subscription?

I have been a long time happy user of Sony Vegas Movie Studio. It is cheap in my view considering how powerful it is. You can usually find it a bundle that includes DVD Architect. I haven't run it under Win8 but have for a long time in Win7.

It is well worth $50 or so.
