One of the major issues in this country is the mindset that has flourished that any sort of compromise means you have gone against your core values and leads us down a slippery slope of right wing facism or left wing nutjob socialism.

This is a bunch of fear mongering. I can point to folks on the extreme right that are nuts, too, but that doesn't mean it's ever going to gain traction in this country.
Fear mongering? It has happened. There are people in authority (government, media, academia) that are in favor of such policies now. This isn't a right or left thing.

If I told you 20 years ago the right for transgender people to use the locker room that they feel represents their gender in our public schools would be a major issue you'd tell me I was out of my mind. And yet, here we are. What is going to the cause de jour in 20 years?

That is an issue with humanity, not simply our nation.

There are times that a line in the sand needs to be drawn. If someone's goal is for you to not have control over your own children, any compromise, by its very nature, is one step closer to their goal and away from theirs.

Sure, there are some opposed to homeschooling. There are people that are pro-homeschooling, yet have no reservations bombing countries they perceive as a threat to national interests. I think the bombing of other nations is far more likely to occur than is a ban on homeschooling, and is obviously a big issue with me.

I don't think it's so much how you "feel", but moreso how you present yourself. But the fact that this is a major issue is telling, but I have no issue with a transgendered woman sharing a locker room with my wife or daughter so I'm sure we have different perspectives on this issue. What will be the cause de jour in 20 years? Who knows? If it involves treating marginalized people with dignity and respect, then sign me up.

See, this is where I think our disconnect is. You are saying I need to vote to keep that from happening. I don't vote, in part, because both sides are wanting to gain control over my children. They only differ on the areas they want to control and the extent to which they wish to control. But don't be fooled. They're all seeking to control. It seems as though you are the one compromising, but think it's "madness" that I don't.

So instead I choose neither. Sure they can still use the coercive power of the state to control my body, but as we teach our children, political freedom is not the same as the freedom we have in Christ. One is fleeting. The other is eternal, so as a wise Man once said: "Do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell."

At this point, I see both sides being almost intentionally obtuse to keep the yelling going. The both support extremely vague legislation that overly broad and asinine. We don't need to align bathrooms to birth gender, and we also don't need to say its ok for anyone to go into any bathroom because they "feel like a woman today".

I agree. The issue became heavily politicized and constructive dialogue was choked out. Me, personally, say go with whatever you present yourself as. I fully believe this is how it was being handled for all the years leading up to this flare up and most were none the wiser. I don't see why it became an issue out of nowhere, but now both sides are running to have government force their positions and an already marginalized group is becoming the focal point for a lot of vitriol.

Well, I'm for whatever gives the appropriate rights without being so vague that the police can't escort an actual pervert from a bathroom.

Has anyone pointed out the humor in Jefferies calling anyone "limp wristed"?
