Firing the Spirit of '02 cannon after the Aggies score a touchdown on Kyle Field is a beloved Texas A&M tradition that almost never happened. In November 1974, juniors Guy Sheppard '76 and Bill Edgerton '76 uncovered a 1902 cannon that was used by Aggies for artillery practice between World Wars I and II while they were cutting logs for the Texas A&M organized Bonfire.

Learn more about how firing the Spirit of '02 cannon became the Texas A&M tradition that it is today.

Love the Spirit of '02, always thought that it made a GREAT story.

Definitely some good bull that it's still firing inside the stadium. Would not have been the same without it!
