Just wish Daenrys would get roasted by a dragon or impaled by one of her former slave soldiers. Can't really keep the other character names straight anyhow. They are more like torturer guy, hero guy, Amazon warrior knight, mean father guy, etc. The names blend together.

true.

i am a book reader that helps, but i'm sure i could name 60 GOT characters off the top of my head...

and LOST has been off the air for what 5 years...i could still name 25 characters probably...and there was no book.

i don't really know how you can watch a show and pay attention and not know peoples names. mind boggling.

especially if you actively read a message board thread discussing the characters!!!!

then again Charlie Strong doesn't know his QB's names so.....

If you can name 60 GOT characters there is something wrong with you. It aint Lord of the Rings or Star Wars. It is a way to pass time with boobs and dragons.

i'm quite proud that i can't name probably 5 LOTR characters...maybe 7....it's watchable but barely readable.

SW only has a dozen to 20 man characters....not includign the expanded universe and who cares.

GOT is incredible writing and a huge expansive world even on the TV show (200+ primary named characters alone). GOt books are far better than any LOTR books.

yeah it was a great myth and fantasy world, a new genre even and quite in depth and very (sometimes too) detailed........lots of good things certainly. i would never read it again though.

you can say mostly the same of GRRM although Tolkien came first of course....and both are guilty of in depth descriptions of minutiae


but it as painful in some other ways and i'd never read it again:

primarily
a. the plot was plodding at best and awkward and the pacing was terrible - bogging down often
b. his characters are all very simple - good/evil and black/white
and some minor complaints
c. it's too puritanical - i realize it was written for children so i guess no fault there - but it needs some adult-ism
d. it's too sentimental - too many long songs and too much nature very PC


GRRM doesn't fall into those failings (as much anyway).
a. GRRM has his moments but really they move fairly well...it's mostly just waiting for the books
b. his characters are often very complex with elements of good and evil in most/all
c. certainly it is not puritanical it is an adult story
d. it has moments of sentimentality - but those are usually quashed by brutal bloody reality rather quickly

Well each to his own. I've read each of the GOT books three times.

I couldn't read LOTR again if you paid me.

I think I have tried to get through A Feast for Crows 3 times and just can't seem to care enough to get through the nonsense.

To each his own I guess.
