Anyone else planning on catching this? I have little to no faith in network drama generally, but we'll see.

I am excited to see it for no other reason than the designated survivor is my favorite quirk about our government. Im curious to see if they include a rump congress but my gut feeling is they wont.

My girlfriend and I were hoping that could be a twist at the end of the season. They just call him Mr. president the whole season till the very end when he kills some bad guys.

But it's made by ABC? And not FOX.

I think they're trying to make him look as unqualified as possible as the plot is his character is the Sec. of Housing and Urban Development, not exactly the position you'd think would be qualified to lead the country after a massive attack.

This is why the real designated survivor is usually Sec. of State, Sec. of Defense, or Sec. of Homeland Security.

there have been about a half dozen times since the 80s when that was true. Its usually a random cabinet member or rep not in the main succession line

I'm not saying I would have wanted the President and all other leaders killed at that time.....but if they were that would not be a bad result. President Robert Gates.

I wish they would bump up the quality of that capitol building explosion just a tad. As long as these promos have been running for you would think they could get some college kid to spruce it up over the weekend for a couple 20s and a pack of smokes.

It's on ABC so I expect everyone to be so emotionally distraught from the attack that they can't function. It's hard to think when like six people you're sleeping with blow up at the same time.

Thought that was pretty terrible. As a former Intel guy, was some pretty spotty work by the FBI. They are always talking leading up to other events yet they were quiet before this one because they had more to do? WTF? And if it was a OBL/AQ-type attack, that's pretty damn spectacular to try to follow up with something else. And what was with the landmine? Thats a weapon for dismounted infantry, not a secondary attack weapon.

And that General wanting to attack the same day because the Iranians moved into the Strait of Hormuz? It took us a month after 9/11 to even begin operations. And take the President out?!? How hokey was that?

Dumb.

Thought it was pretty good so far, but some fairly bad parts as well. Why is there a coup already in the planning? Of course the President is a Democrat, but I'm guessing that it is set on current events since they mention that Congress will not help pass his agenda, implying it is controlled by the Republicans. They also indirectly mentioned the UK Prime Minister is female, and that Al-Qaeda, the Taliban, or ISIS all exist.

I just get the feeling, since they said no evidence points to Al-Qaeda, the Taliban, or ISIS, it will turn out to be some "right wing, anti-government" group that is led by someone based on Trump, or some evil corporation like in Season 2 of "24" it was "big oil."

Villain will be white nationalist NRA members. Typical Hollywood military will be warmongering blowhards kept in check by smarter, better civilians. Some Muslim will be a suspect but end up saving the day and/or being a sympathetic character. Globalism and big government will prevail.

I'd figured they would evacuate at once to some place like Site R/Raven Rock, or get to Andrews and board Air Force 1 as being in the sky with fighter escort is very safe.

Guarantee that this will be the storyline. Hollywood and the media want a right wing boogeyman so bad they can almost taste it. I am also positive that the Alt Right will be involved somehow in the show as a villain. I wonder if they will mention cartoon frogs, harambe, and the evil hackers known as 4chan.

From everything I've read they stay in or near DC. Although they are typically briefed the morning of with basic security Intel.

As someone mentioned, since this is not on HBO or Netflix, I guess my expectations were lowered. It was okay and I like the concept. I'll give it a few episodes.

Lets see: Liberal Urban Housing & Development cabinet member. Precocious daughter. Rebellious teen son. Semi-hot wife. War hawk JCOS Chairman. Hot super smart FBI chick. Predictable plot. 15-20 minutes of commercials.
Agree with what others have said. It will be a Neo Nazi/Right wing/Skin Head/NRA/Anti-Clinton/Redneck group with ties to overseas socialists that is responsible.
If you like this type of story line watch the 1990 TV movie By Dawns Early Light with Powers Boothe and James Earl Jones Though dated, it's basically the same concept with the nuclear option thrown in.
