I like covers a lot but thinking of what is the "best" cover cover is difficult. There are a lot of covers I like the most but are pretty unknown. So I set my own rules.

• First that it wouldn't be a song that is exclusively famous as the cover, to the point that in general it is not known there is an original (Example: Whitney Houston - I Will Always Love You). This means that both the cover and the original had to have been popular on their own.
• Second the cover has to do something different enough from the original so that it is really a new take on the song.
• Third (and this is arguable) that the cover is better than the original.

So here is what I came up with (in no order):

• Nirvana - The Man Who Sold The World
• Gary Jules - Mad World
• The Bangles - Hazy Shade of Winter
• Reel Big Fish - Take on Me
• Dynamite Hack - Boyz in the Hood
• Orgy - Blue Monday
• Dixie Chicks - Landslide
• Metallica - Turn the Page
• Alien Ant Farm - Smooth Criminal
• Social Distortion - Ring of Fire

Dixie chicks' Landslide makes me angry. Smashing Pumpkins version is dope though.
