Thinking about watching Strek Trek TNG on Netflix since it's on there now. Worth the watch or does it not stand the test of time? I remember watching bits and pieces as a kid but never a full episode I don't think.

A lot of good episodes, but a lot of really terrible ones. I'd say watch.
quote:I liked TNG after season 2. I still think it is worth re-watching select episodes every now and again, but I find myself going back and watching the entire series of DS9. The characters in DS9 I thought were a lot more well rounded and fleshed out. DS9's "In the Pale Moonlight" is possibly my favorite episode from any of the TV series.
DS9 is great as a Netflix series too, the large story arcs makes it better on Netflix than it did on TV. There aren't as many great episodes as TNG, but there's a lot less bad episodes and it's the most character driven Star Trek series. Also some of the funniest star trek episodes are DS9(like the great DS9 baseball game).
quote:Good article. The episodes are stand-alone for the most part, so you won't miss too much by skipping the bad ones.

start here, if you like it, go watch the rest

The holo deck episodes used to annoy me to no end. Just w cheap ploy to create anything they wanted to on a space show. And then half the time they would find a way, in the 23rd century, to not be able to turn it off.
But other than that, yes. Make it so.

quote:There was a a LOT of writer turn over in the first two seasons IIRC, and i also think I remember reading that Roddenberry was heavily involved in either rewriting scripts until his health started to decline.
The first two seasons had some growing pains but then it really hit it's stride.

That said, I love DS9 for the characters it brought, especially Garak and Dukat.

quote:Roddenberry was too much of a idealist to realize that no matter how much he wanted it to be, nothing is perfect. The Federation might be a nice place (mostly) but there are always bad guys out there.
DS9 catches flak because it's not how Roddenberry would have done it. Iirc he was against war in his future.
That said, the war episodes of DS9 are the best 2 seasons of Star Trek.
quote:
He would have flipped is lid over "In The Pale Moonlight" which IMO is one of the best DS9 episodes.
quote:Not only that, but Generations has the Enterprise D, while First Contact has the Enterprise E and will spoil some major plot points for people who hadn't seen TNG to begin with. Not that it is required to see the episodes, but still.
Why would you bookend TNG the series with the four movies? That seems random.
