Mainstream country is atrocious. It's a shame acts like Jason Isbell and the Turnpike Troubadours go unnoticed by so many people.

Went to Turnpike at HOB last month. Awesome show but noticeably not that crowded.
Part of this is due to the fact that there isn't much of a place for rock in mainstream music today. Certainly not like there was in the 90's. Heck, when I listen some of the Aerosmith from the 90's (Crazy, What It Takes, Cryin') it sounds more like country or southern rock than anything 'rock' today (and clearly it's not country). That song isn't bad, but the video is way over the top.
Modern country is just over-produced...like every genre today. We have so much technology now, we're leaning on that instead of the things that used to make great songs. We're trying to fit labels instead of letting an artist be the themselves...or pushing a bunch of people with little talent that you have to invent a fake twang and image for.
There are some artists that give me hope for country though:
