You realize that you just described the typical "got married the day we graduated college" couple?

Just finished watching. Really liked it. I predicted Kyoko was a machine like the first time she showed up. Never could really tell when Nathan was being truthful or not. Do you think he really had the techs killed that set up his network? I could buy it.

Thought Ava was pretty believable. Typical chick that falls for the first guy she meets, gets all clingy and then goes stone cold toward him when she has access to a larger world.

Honestly, that dude should not have fallen for it. Did he think they were going to live happily ever after or was he just trying to be her hero? I guess he was going to buy her a bunch of turtle necks?
nathan knew from all of his previous tests that eventually all of his AI robots would want to get out. it was a natural evolution.

now, we don't know where Ava was on that evolutionary scale. but, if you go by the continued upgrades, then she would have moved along very quickly.

caleb fell for her because he was a lonely guy and she fit his mold.

the real questions being asked are not if AI happens but when it does happen, will the robots develop human feelings of empathy, shame or guilt?

ava is portrayed as a sociopath in the end. she manipulated caleb with false emotion and lies. have humans always had these thoughts and feelings? we don't really know. so, we don't know if AI would eventually develop them.

Could this movie serve as a platform to launch a trilogy? I'd like to see it.

Easily a sequel - too many unanswered questions there. I am curious to see the next act and find out more about Ava's intentions.

It was a pretty clever joke, I thought.

Just watched, pretty much went into it blind. Wow it was good.

I got a question for Yall though.

Spoiler***

At the very last shot, did anyone else get the impression that Ava was going back for Caleb? It seemed like she got to the intersection, frowned, and then started heading back the way she came. I just didn't know if anybody else had interpreted it that way.

I didn't, but it's feasible. Caleb might get out of there anyway, because they made it to point to convey that the reclusive CEO was still communicative with the company. The helicopter would be ordered to check the house eventually, although obviously Caleb might be dead by then.

I thought it was great, second only to Sunshine concerning recent sci-fi (including Gravity and Interstellar).

Also, the porn joke was very clever.

I read that as her possessing some emotion instead of her reliance on programming or perceived logic. Did she feel remorse?

Just saw on Redbox and I loved it! Pretty cool to consider that Ava was neither good nor bad. She was programmed a certain way and acted accordingly.

My one question is: why did Kyoko assist Ava? I assumed she was programmed solely as a servant. Or did all the robots have an "innate" urge to escape.

Got around to watching this and loved it, great sci-fi flick!

I think Kyoko was reprogrammed and/or influenced by AVA.

TY for heads up on this hitting prime video. I have a weekend without wife and kids coming up, and I am going to knock out some movies on my "to see" list.

Finally got around to watching this! So good! As soon as the first power outage happened, I knew I was in for something special!

What am I missing? I thought it was terrible.

Predictable. Boring. Uncompelling.

Power outages? At this billion dollar research facilty? No backup?

I was thinking there was going to be some awesome payoff and all this was just show and the real twist was coming, but all we get is the creator knifed in the back bc he's mean? And the drinking? Obvious setup and now, somehow Nathan was caught off guard after seeing the extent Caleb was becoming infatuated with it, he saw the first "power off" exchange about lies, but Nathan wouldnt use his blackouts as a setup and was genuinely caught off guard? I found much, if not all of the actual plot ridiculous; save for the actual AI. That was the most believable part of the movie, that this guy had actually created AI.

I may be one of few, but I was thoroughly disappointed and would not give it anywhere near the ratings I see for it. I was so hoping, even expecting, that Id found another great movie to show my wife where, "no, I know its dull now, but wait, there's a great payoff coming" but I never felt anything for any of the characters.

i kinda felt the same. overhyped but the dance scene plus alicia vikanders tits were pleasant enough for me to approve.

I mean, how out of character is it for a control freak billionaire to just get blackout drunk all the time with a guest present? Far more fitting to the character would have been if the getting drunk was intentional to see how Caleb responds. Then, Caleb and Nathan's talk on the fourth day could lead them to the conclusion that, yes, Ava has passed the test and this is cause for celebration. A celebration where Nathan now lets his guard down bc he believes he has won Caleb over and given his drinking tendacies, overdoes it and Caleb acts.
