First movie I've been truly excited about seeing this year. Checking it out tonight. Word so far has been really, really good. Out in NY and LA this weekend, and should expand soon after.

Anyone else excited for this? It's written and directed by Alex Garland, who wrote both 28 Days Later and Sunshine. And all three actors are about to be huge stars. Oscar Isaac and Domhnall Gleeson will be starring together in The Force Awakens, while Alicia Vikander has three big movies coming the second half of the year. It's such a great trio, and not only does it look super cool, but there's the added factor of this likely being the last time each of them will be considered "under the radar" (though Isaac has obviously been on a steady rise for years now).

ever since I saw the first preview this flew to the top of my most anticipated films of 2015.

I get to maybe 1 or 2 movies per year...interstellar was one, this will likely be the other...looks so interesting

Just got back. Super cool. And super creepy (at times). Wasn't mind blowing or anything - it's an incredibly simple and straightforward story, all things considered - but it's absolutely unlike any movie you've seen before. LOVED the setting/production value, and Alicia Vikander is phenomenal. Her mannerisms/subtle robotic expressions are just amazing. You really do believe she's an A.I.

That said, I do wish it had been a bit more in depth when it came to the whole A.I. angle - and I had a slight problem with the way Isaac's character was portrayed toward the end - but overall it's totally worth seeing in the theater. Despite it being somewhat surface level, there are plenty of nice little twists and turns, and I have a feeling this is going to be one of those movies I have to watch every time it's on TV. There's a 30-second-or-so dance scene - yes, a dance scene - that's worth the price of admission alone. So weird, and so hilarious. Maybe my favorite part of the whole movie. That, and there was a surprising amount of nudity as well. Definitely didn't see that coming.

I'm kidding. But I've heard good things from the showing at SX this year. Several friends went and were very impressed. They don't watch many movies so good to hear you enjoyed it.

I can't seem to find a showing in Seattle to save my life. Been waiting months for this.

Nice. Just curious to hear what non-critics think.

Looks good. The darkness/hotness/sci-fi/female who may kill somebody vibe reminds me of Under The Skin, one of the most memorable/underrated movies of the last couple years.

Oscar Isaac is making his way onto the list of "If he's in it, I'll see it". Always worth my time.

Under the Skin is a great comparison, character-wise. Definitely shares a few similarities.

And yeah, right there with you. Isaac is absolutely one of my favorite actors now.

Caught this at the Angelika in Dallas today. I was absolutely floored by it. It's actually similar to Spring in regards to genre-bending and tone.

I've heard criticism that Garland can't put together a good 3rd act, but that wasn't at all a case with this. I was second guessing everything and unsure about what would happen right up to the very last minute of the film.

I would highly recommend this film to anybody. I can't wait to own this on blu-ray.

Anybody else who saw that catch when Domhnall Gleeson slipped up and let a VERY British way of saying something slip out, despite ostensibly being from Long Island?

Great to hear. I've actually cooled on it the more I've read, but I definitely still lean toward really, really enjoying it.

Interesting, yet fantastic. I will say you should see this movie.



So Vikander better make it into Hollywood big time with a movie like this. I could see her as a Bond Girl in a future movie. She was stunning throughout and the little intricacies in her voice and movement were amazing. The CGI they used here was so subtle and effective. I never really felt like I was watching a computer image, though it helped with the blending of her face with the rest of her body.

Isaac just exuded foreboding and creepiness in almost any scene he was in. The dance scene was glorious on so many levels of magnitude. Domhall Gleeson also did a great job and I really did feel like he was falling in love with her. This was HER but with a physical construct to look at and a psychological thriller with Isaac in the background.

I was really happy with the film and glad I went.

I loved when Gleeson began to cut himself in fear that he himself was a robot. He was so shaken to the core at what he was seeing. The revelation that the Turing test was not the real test was probably the most shocking. That fact test AVA was a rat in a maze and Gleeson was the one way out was fascinating. It put a completely different spin on their previous sessions and you realized that there was one flaw with AVA, she showed no true empathy, especially after leaving Gleeson behind in the house.

The fact that her face was built on Gleeson's porn habits and her facial constructions came from data pulled from Google (eh hmm I mean Bluebook) got a lot of nervous laughter out of the audience for obvious reasons. It was some great commentary that I wasn't initially expecting in this film.

The movie itself should now be out wide this weekend. Go see it!

Why didn't he just walk out in the end? He said he changed all the programming so that the doors are unlocked whenever the red alert thing happens, so he should have been able to walk out when he put his card in the machine causing the red alert.
