Sorry if a thread already exists on this book but WOW. I am listening as an audiobook during work travel and this is one of the greatest stories I have encountered. I am only on Ch 14 so please no spoilers but I recommend this one. I love the science, suspense and the humor. Definitely hilarious. A little sad to see Matt Damon listed to star in the film adaptation. I don't picture the main character as that type at all.

We started listening to the audiobook on a recent trip as well, but my wife hated it so I'm finishing up on my own. I've enjoyed it and I think it has potential to be a really good movie adaptation.

Not really related, but when the wife gave up on The Martian we started listening to Dark Places by Gillian Flynn and that one's good so far as well. Coincidentally, it's also the basis for an upcoming movie, starring Charlize Theron who I similarly do not see as the main character at all.

Love the book. Also disappointed about Damon. I like him but he just doesn't fit.

Hmmm. I haven't read either of those books. What's the premise?

Also - nothing could be as bad as casting a 5'7", 150# scrap (Cruise) into a 6'5", 250# monster (Reacher), can it?

The Martian- Astronaut is left behind on Mars after an accident, and has to struggle to survive. It's a pretty technical book, based on what was an internet forum story, I believe (like Lights Out).

I enjoyed the book a lot. Reminded me a lot of Michael Crichton books. A type of sci-fi we haven't seen in a while. I recommend it a lot as a more funny and modern Crichton style book.

Best description I have seen of The Martian is Cast Away meets Apollo 13. I really enjoyed the Martian and am excited about seeing it as a movie. I hope the author (Andy Weir) comes out with more stuff!
