Who would you vote in that is missing? Dang, they apparently don't go by album sales. And they seem to have something against artists that were huge from 1975 to 1985:

Journey
Deep Purple
Foreigner
Def Leppard
Bon Jovi
Motley Crue
Chicago
The Commodores
Three Dog Night
America
Steve Miller Band
Bad Company
Judas Priest
Cheap Trick
Thin Lizzy

Motorhead
Jethro Tull
Nine Inch Nails
Iron Maiden
Yes
Depeche Mode
Moody Blues
Todd Rungren
The Cars
The Monkees
The Doobie Brothers
Procol Harum
Warren Zevon
Pantera
Dire Straits
Pat Benatar
Steppenwolf

Supertramp
ELO

Def Leppard. No band has been through the crap theyve been through and accomplished a smidgen of what Leppard has done.

Too many to choose from...but ya, Deep Purple is probably at the top of that list

I'm not really even a fan, but Chicago should be in.

I think I would rather have a mix tape of artists not in the hall than one from artists that are in.

I have a real high bar. I wish the Hall would adopt a higher standard, but I suppose that horse is out of the barn. For example, I am a fan of RHCP, but do not think they are HOF worthy. I do not think Lou Reed belongs, as a solo artist.

Having said that, here's the one's I think deserve a spot:
Deep Purple
Judas P
Cheap Trick
Motorhead
Iron M

Boarderline:
The Cars

Don't forget that Donna Summer is in the hall.

Yeah, no doubt.

The problems have been well documented. I agree with Gene Simmons about hip hop. He got a lot of flack because some equated that racially, but he simply said hip hop doesn't belong. And I agree with him.

As with all the discussions we have on this board, it's a subjective thing, so no one is ever going to agree 100%.

Stevie Guitar Miller. Why they wouldn't be there is beyond me.

Journey should be there, though I'm not a fan. Well I guess they should, but heck I can't even name an album. They certainly have many fans among my age group.

Foreigner was fairly important for a number of years and they've always held prominence on American radio. Hell, Jukebox Hero is a great song.

I would note that quite a few bands listed have a certain cheese factor. Example: ELO. Bon Jovi. They just aren't cool. Not sure how else to explain that. I realize that Deep Purple was a powerhouse at a point musically, but their following probably isn't as strong as some would intimate. My conclusion is that they were never cool, and never will be.

Now I have tried and listen to Iron Maiden multiple times, to try and figure out what I was missing, but they're pure metal, and I guess that is a branch of rock and roll that doesn't get respect, probably because, critically, it lacks melody. Run for the Hills does do something for me, but it is no 2112.

Bad Company I guess would seem contrived to many, as I remember it being an all star makeup. Great singer, but many wouldn't consider them "real" enough. They certainly get played at the pool hall , though.

Yes should be there, and I'm not even a fan.

Almost every one of those should have been in before Green Day.

Hmm

Has Bon Jovi ever actually inspired anybody to pick up a guitar?

That would be one arbitrary rule for me. Richie Sambora? Good guitarist that nobody will mention when they enter Guitar Center

2) Yes
3) Deep Purple
4) Dire Straits
5) Depeche Mode

NIN and Pantera for me, though if they ever get in I don't know either would care enough to show up. I don't know if Vinnie and Phil ever made up or if they ever will, also given that Dime's been gone a decade doesn't make it easier for them to get on stage together.

It's like they want to be the Oscars, so they don't include mainstream big hit players. And some argue Rock N Roll versus Pop, but Johnny Cash is in.

But they have included some very lame members. And they love giving multiple awards to their favorites.

Simply, they got political a lot quicker than the Oscars did.

ELO

uhhh, are The Smiths in there? Cause man they were louder than bombs when I was younger. Pretty important band for a number of years and some would call them one of the best British bands and among "alternative" bands, which is a term I steer away from, they're more important than just about any band. Johnny Marr , the guitarist, had a distinct, memorable sound, and Morrissey and he really had some great lyrics.

And The Smiths are more important than Depech Mode. Yeah, I said that.

Ban me if you must, but I stand by my original statement. I also think Hall&Oates are the greatest duo of all time.

If we go by your logic Wham would be in before The Smiths.

Best band not on the list isn't eligible yet, but Radiohead should be first ballot hall of famers when their time comes.

as stated, I own some Iron Maiden. Never got into it. To each his own.

Beatles - melodic

Iron Maiden - not.
