What's yours?

Mine: The Last Samurai. Hans Zimmer is my favorite composer and IMHO TLS is his best work. I could listen to it all day long. In fact I am right now which is what made me start this thread.

Even though LOTR is my favorite, there are about 5 John Williams scores in my top ten. The man is god.

Star Wars, Raiders, ET, and Jurassic Park are all on there. Maybe even Superman.

I was not a huge Stayin Alive fan but it was pretty revolutionary and badicly defined the disco revolution.

Best Movie Score: Lord of the Rings

There is literally no other movie score done so perfectly. Every piece of music fits perfectly for the subject of the scene (the Shire, Gondor, Rohan (my favorite)). This score is literally perfect, imo.

Best Theme?

I think of this different from a score. I think John Williams is THE GREATEST composer of themes, but i feel his full scores are lacking and seem very similar after watching a lot of the movies he has scored. His themes, however, are some of my favorite musical pieces from movies:

Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park, Harry Potter, Jaws, and Star Wars being my favorites.

Best Soundtrack: Almost Famous

Go ahead and argue with that... you lose. (Dazed and Confused and Guardians of the Galaxy are also great)

I'll argue if were talking compilations -

Repo Man, 80s version. I've lost or damaged that tape / CD multiple times and always replaced.

I suppose I need to go back and listen to LOR. It wasn't particularly memorable to me, but then those were stressful times for me and I used to be a Tolkien purist, so I cannot be satisfied.

Any Hans Zimmer, anything from Inception and Gladiator to the Prince of Egypt. The man can straight-up make a soundtrack.

Also I'll play a game with my friends when I'm driving where I'll play a song, and they'll guess what movie it's in. For some reason I can remember soundtracks really well base on which scene of the movie it's in.

I also love Lord of the Rings.

Guardians of the Galaxy was just a good fun compilation.

The Pirates of the Carribean movies have some really good tracks.

Oh and how could I almost forget my favorite soundtrack of the early 90s: Judgment Night!

I saw/heard the Houston Symphony perform LOTR: The Fellowship of the Ring as the film was shown on a big screen behind them. It was awesome.

Lots of good stuff posted already but a few deserving a little love on this thread -

Ennio Morricone
Gabriel's Oboe - The Mission
Almost anything he composed for Sergio Leone's Spaghetti Westerns
Man with Harmonica - Once Upon a Time in the West
La resa dei conti - For A Few Dollars More
Quentin Tarantino has also used his work
Ancora Qui - Django Unchained

Anton Karas for The Third Man
The Harry Lime Theme

Still a big fan of Jerry Goldsmith's score for Patton

A fun compilation soundtrack - American Graffiti

quote:
Ennio Morricone
If they ever make the Dark Tower for film, he has to be the one to score it.

I could go all day on this thread just with Star Wars and LOTR, so setting those aside, I agree with Jurassic Park, Gladiator, and yes, the first Pirates of the Caribbean sound track is awesome;

The Dark Knight - could listen to that all day assuming I was driving a car 100 mph at the time.

first Iron Man - Ramin Djawadi - who also scores Game of Thrones
