To say this is overdue is simply an understatement at the very least.

Well, it's finally happened. The late Stevie Ray Vaughan has actually been nominated for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015.

Was just teaching my 14 year old son about SRV an hour ago as an example of a gifted musician whose work was influenced by other gifted musicians like Jimi, BB, Albert, Buddy, and so forth. Poor kid thinks that Skrillex invented music.

I just think only black guys should play the blues...

Absolutely racist. Do you like the Beatles? How about Buddy Holly or Hank Williams Sr.?

Just when you think you have seen and heard it all....

I guess Eric Clapton dosn't impress you either.

I'm not really a fan of SRV either but I can recognize a great musician when I hear it.

No, no and alright. But hank isn't known for his guitar skills. I like Hank's lyrics.

Don't like Eric Clapton either. Saw him in Austin and did a Blues Night. I was just thinking, this guy is trying to hard.
To me, blues = black.
I'm not trying to argue, you guys like him, great. I personally don't.

The "Blue's" does not discriminate . You either feel or you don't. Jonny Lang is as white as they come and he has the blues. Mato Nanji is Native American and he has the blues. It is not a "black" thing.

I'd put SRV a hair above Clapton personally. Both are top 10, IMO.

But neither comes close to Jimi or Page.

I know that. I learned this at a young age from Adventures in Babysitting.
If you notice I keep saying ME, not YOU, or EVERYONE ELSE, but ME. Just my opinion.

I mean Johnny Cash was about as country as the come, but he was also very bluesy. And if anyone has Blues-cred it's Johnny.

Already looking forward to SRV's induction. The talent that'll play him in should be pretty impressive.

This is only a nomination. Get back to me when those morons actually induct him. You're not going to find too many bigger Zeppelin fans than me but SRV is the 2nd greatest guitarist ever IMO behind only Hendrix. He was flat out superhuman. Played like a man possessed. His version of Jimi's "Little Wing" may actually be better than the original and I don't say something like that lightly. If you're not a fan of the blues, I can understand that. But I can't imagine anyone not being able to appreciate just how talented the man was.

hendrix music still sounds fresh today. I love srv but his stuff sounds very dated when you listen now.

He did suffer unfortunately from reaching prominence in the 80s, when everyone sounded cheesy and dated.

Maybe your don't get the special thing about him was his guitar playing.

Up next, "michaelangelo seems to paint pretty well, but his art is nothing special."

SRV was (arguably for some, not for me) the greatest blues guitarist ever, better than Jimi, better than Jimmy, better than Clapton. His voice is uncanny, unique, powerful, soulful and blended perfectly with his guitar.

Seeing him live was just amazing, and I was lucky to be able to do so. It was live when his incredible guitar-playing was best on display. He just never seemed to miss a note no matter how complex. And yet, with so much technical skill, the guts and the soul and the grit of his play still shine through.

For him to be left out of the Hall for so long is laughable.

I love SRV. My dad being a guitar player had me listening to classic rock growing up but SRV is who made me want to pick up a guitar, even though I am horrible at it. I have just always been very amazed at the sounds he was able to make.

Another blues/rock guitarist I have grown to like lately is Gary Clark Jr. If you haven't listened to him yet you're doing yourself a disservice.
