If you had $1000 or less to spend on a dive watch, what would you get?

I'm looking for something that checks all of these off, if possible:

52 mm or less lug to lug
22 mm lug width
Unidirectional rotating bezel
Black dial
Date function
28,800 bph automatic movement
Decent lume

I assume you would like it good for depths of 0 meters to 02 meters?

That's a nice watch, but the proprietary lugs are a no go for me. I want 22 mm lugs so I can put other straps on it. 22 mm is pretty common.

Also a good choice if you want a Rolex Submariner homage/replica watch.

They are too close. If you are buying a diving watch for diving, get a suunto or similar.

If you are buying it for fashion, the steinharts look like the watch equivalent of a US Polo Association shirt.
They scream "I wanted a submariner bit I couldn't afford it"

With all the information you have provided, it really sounds like you know your watches.
With the lack of tits accompanying your request, it really seems like you don't know the GB.

All nice watches Vinny. I'm torn between several of those. There are nitpicky things about each one that are turning me away.

I definitely don't want a submariner clone.

Ever heard of Deep Blue Watches? Several of their watches caught my attention, but they all use NH35 movements which are 21600 bph. I guess if I had to give up one requirement, it would be the bph.

I know both. Figured if I ignored the joke posts, they would go away.

$1k limit? Marathon GSAR. No question. Getting the oyster bracelet for it as well will sit you back about $200, so just a tick over your budget. But a well built watch with a loyal following and can take what you throw at it.

Or, you could get the following:
- Seiko SKX007 with a StrapCode Super Oyster bracelt and be out about $300
- Seiko Monster

You'll have 2 awesome dive watches that are different from each other, yet are reliable and can take a punishment.

I really like my GSAR. Dump the NATO band and get the stainless version.

I have heard of Deep Blue, contemplated a few of their watches. The NH35 is a Seiko 6R15 movement. They are IMO very good movements despite being only 6 beats per second.

Does it really matter if a watch beats 6 or 8 times per second? Yes you will suffer some in accuracy, yes it will be slightly less smooth (seconds hand sweep), but you will have longer service intervals.

The GSAR is nice. I just wish it had 22 mm lugs.

I didn't know that less beats per second meant longer service intervals. Would it also be generally cheaper to service that movement?

To be clear this was a general statement. You would always need to research the movement you have to see about the recommend service interval.

That being said, I tend to take the standpoint that if a watch is running fine, I don't have it serviced until there is a problem vs regular servicing of my watches. With that said I do not buy watches over a thousand dollars.

I agree. I have my 9 year old Seamaster on right now and it's running as good as it was when I bought it. Once I feel something is wrong, I'll send it in for service.

Man that thread is full of watches way out of my price range.

That yobokies guy that does SKX007 mods interests me though. I have an SKX007 that annoys me because the chapter ring is not aligned, but I might send it to that guy for a mod to get a new watch face and a sterile chapter ring. How do you contact that guy for a mod?
