Maybe you shouldn't have been an Art History major. Then you wouldn't have to take a job for only 14k.

Serious answer:

Reasons for 10K:
  • Cost (cheaper).
  • Increased durability.
  • What I would choose if I was getting my ring antiqued. IMO

Reasons for 14K:
  • For its luster (gold color).
  • Decreased durability. Some people want their ring to be unrecognizable in 30 years.
  • What I would choose if I was going natural. IMO

Indeed. 14k makes no sense unless you want to spend a lot of money and watch it wear away faster.

My BiL is like that - got 14k - ALWAYS wears his ring - scrubs it as hard as he can. 20 years after graduation, it looks like an 80 year old's ring and he thinks it's "cool".

My wife and I have both had our Aggie rings for almost 10 years. She got 14K, I got 10K. I wear mine twice as often as she does but her ring is noticeably smoother. Where as my ring has more dings from hard use and marks from the occasional bottle opening.
