So I'm the best man in a wedding saturday in SF, and was looking for a place for the groomsman to get together for lunch and drinks prior to the ceremony. Also looking for a nice golf course to play friday with the groom. Posted here because GB traffic > Travel Board traffic Any suggestions? tia

Las Campanas will do the job both for food and golf. Sunset course has more forced carries while Sunrise is a little more forgiving with rolling fairways. I think they're ranked as the #1 and #3 courses in New Mexico so it'll be a nice round on either course.

Thanks AAIC, looks like that will fit the bill perfectly. Will likely be the nicest course either of us have played. We are both mid handicappers (12 & 16)... Which of the courses do you suggest?

and any other attractions you can think to check out while in SF? The wedding is at the La Fonda Hotel, which is where we will be staying as well. From what I understand we will be in walking distance to a fair number of places.

Yeah, tons of museums if you're into that. The Georgia O'Keeffe Museum is awesome, if you like her stuff. The Loretto Chapel is where the magical staircase was constructed. Even if you don't believe the miraculous stories around the guy who built it, you can't help but admire the workmanship.

We played Buffalo Thunder. It's pretty fun, and a bit unusual with some of the "mesa" teeboxes. A fantastic view, too.

Go to the travel board anyway, and do a search. There have been a ton of Santa Fe threads.

Eat at Gabriels on 285 north of town. Great Mexican food, and have guacamole made table side. It's also near Buffalo Thunder resort/casino and the golf course mentioned above.

Beyond that, depends on how much of a museum/history nerd you are, and how much driving you want to do. Art galleries are all over Santa Fe. Pecos wilderness is pretty, and there is an interesting pueblo/mission ruin to the south of there. Los Alamos is nearby and has some good museums on nuclear (Manhattan Project) and local history. Bandelier and the cliff dwellings are cool. Valles Caldera National Preserve is the prettiest drive you can make. Hot Springs in Jemez.

Heck, there's even a bug museum in a mall on the north end of town.

It's been years, but we played the Marty Sanchez Links de Santa Fe right after it first opened and I really liked it. Have no idea if it's been kept up or not but routing was fun.

If you're down for a little bit of a drive on Friday, Pueblo de Cocheti (sp?) has always been one of my favorite courses to play. Used to play it with my pops every summer when we would vacation at our cabin just outside SF.
