How long do you want to ignore this user?
For those of us that have the pleasure of managing people I just had this happen...

One of our hourly shift employees just notified me he was going to HR because his vacation that was approved wasn't approved fast enough by his supervisor. I laughed and said let me know what they tell you.

What other great people management stories do y'all have???

I have some lower middle management dork that works in one of my divisions that spends all day posting on an internet message board complaining about inane nonsense caused by the hourly seat fillers instead of doing his job.

Two weeks into my first management job at 25 I caught one of my front desk employees drunk off her ass. Two months after we let her go, I got a call that she was murdered by the boyfriend of another one of my employees.

All of this was at my last company, which was a freight forwarder:

1. This lady didn't work for me, but not long after I started my last job, there was an old lady that was a couple months away from retirement who was a bitter old hag. Anyway, she went to get her Subway sandwich from the fridge during her lunch hour that night (she worked the 3-11p shift, and it was gone. Instead of letting it go or letting some of the higher ups know what happened, she left a note taped to the fridge that essentially read like "Whichever of your poor dumb *******s stole my sandwich, I hope your die a slow painful death by fire." Needless to say, her retirement started a bit early, and she broke a computer monitor as they escorted her out.

2. I had one girl who was essentially the company bicycle for all of the IC's who drove for my operation. Security caught her puffing the wood of one guy in a truck parked on the street in front of our corporate HQ. Due to it not being on the property and her being on her lunch, we couldn't do anything to her.

3. The above mentioned girl used up all of her PTO by like March, and I gave her warning during some approvals that if she left the company before the end of the year, she'd have to pay it back. She said she wouldn't be leaving. Well, I get a 2 weeks notice from her in April, and after she got her last check, I got an email from her asking why it was only for like $300. I looked into it and she had to pay back essentially a week and a half of paid PTO that she didn't accrue. I responded and explained why it was so low and attached emails of me informing her of this possibility when I'd approve her requests. She didn't like that answer and left me about a 2 minute profanity laced voicemail, called my boss and did the same, and then showed up demanding to speak with the VP of HR. She was promptly escorted out by security. I got a call a couple of months later from one of our competitors to verify she had worked there. I told them she had, and when they asked if I would hire here, I just replied "no comment." He laughed and said "got'cha."

4. I interviewed one guy for an open position who was qualified for it, but I got a weird vibe in the interview. When I informed him we would not be offering the position to him, he thanked me for my time and the opportunity to interview for it. Nothing out of the ordinary. A couple of days later, he's hanging out by the entrance to our building waiting on me to come out to ask why I didn't offer him the position and whether or not I'd reconsider.

5. We got a huge new piece of business from a customer, and when they informed the incumbent, the incumbent decided to burn the bridge and gave them the weekend to get everything out of their warehouse over the weekend (this is usually a 90-day transition). We weren't prepared to take it on so soon, so we held a job fair to just get some bodies in and help us with data entry into the system. The next week, I had to walk out 2 people on the first day they were there. I caught one with her hood pulled tight over her head and sound asleep. And caught another smoking a cigarette at her desk. Both were sure to inform me and the security officer how racist I was as I was walking them out.

Most places have some kind of minimum lead time for vacation requests, etc. Can't request vacation time two days before leaving. Duh.
