Serious answer: find out which c is most important to her and base your decision on that. For me I was willing to compromise on clarity and color (to a certain degree) for a larger stone. We had a 1.6 and a 2.1 at similar price points, so I chose the 2.1. Not everyone would choose that though.

Every girl places Cut / Carat at the top of the pack. They will have a strong opinion on what shape they like, and whatever you get better be big and shiny. Most don't have the first clue about clarity, and until you get to H color or worse, they won't be able to tell the difference there either.

OP, you should be able to get a bigger stone for 10k if it's a solitaire. No one will sit there and inspect the ring, as long as it sparkles well and is big that will work. In my opinion at least.
