Carnival Cruise Line is trying to put a stop to alcohol being smuggled aboard its ships disguised as bottled water.

Beginning July 9, Carnival will effectively ban beverages in bottles from being brought onboard at embarkation. The only exception is a single bottle of fine wine or champagne. Otherwise, beverages must packaged in unopened cans or cartons, including water, sodas and juices, with a maximum number of 12 packed in carry-on luggage. The change means passengers can no longer tag beverages for embarkation as checked luggage. In addition, Carnival will restrict the size of coolers broughtaboard to those measuring 12x12x12 or less.

I've been on several rock/party cruises the past few years. We used rum runners to sneak on an insane amount of liquor in our bags every times. We are about 15 for 15 on bags we have used rum runners and each had multiple liquor bottles worth.

Also the fake shampoo bottles you can buy on amazon work. Never once had any problem.

Roommate in Crocker did this for chilifest.
Carefully pulled out bottles from a shrink wrapped flat of water, filled the middle bottles with vodka, and re packed the flat.

He was a bit disappointed they didn't even check it.

Just go on one that is 7+ days, the newest ships (more expensive), and don't go on Carnival. Get a junior suite or better.

I can't imagine how awful the $200/person 3 day cruises to Mexico are.

I've enjoyed the cruises that I've been on. If you are too busy worrying about everybody else on board instead of having your own fun then that is your own business.

Watching the 2012 National Title game on a huge projector while in a hot tub and sh*tfaced was pretty damn fun
