What would you buy for a non-expert shooter and his wife? We would get basic training but I'm not looking to do swat maneuvers. If somebody comes in our house, we are waiting in the closet and shooting anything that comes through the door. Something that would be easy for my wife to use would be best.

Go to the range. See what you're comfortable with.

Too many experts will tell you what to go with but if you don't practice and practice with something you're comfortable with.............doesn't matter.

Caliber wise.........if she's never shot, start small and just see how things go and same for yourself if you've never shot.

Seems like a shotgun would provide for best chance of success for a novice/panicked shooter. Is 20 gauge enough firepower? Thinking about the wife.

But if you just want to destroy everything and don't care what gets hit. Go with this. You just fan the pump and hold the trigger down and it'll fire as quick as you can fan the pump. I've mutilated one of the barns at my inlaws with one, fun times.

all of this and take some safety classes. Range time is a good idea too. The more comfortable and educated yall are, the better.

edit: make sure it is stored properly too.

I've got a glock 19 and the wife knows how to shoot it just fine

It's really all about what you and your comfortable with. If it's a handgun, great. If it's a shotgun, great too. Try them both and go from there
