Ok you trolling on purpose or do you actually think effing Maine, New Jersey, or Ohio has anywhere else to the best Mexican food?

The list should be:
1. Mexico
2. Texas
3. New Mexico
4. California

I like Mexican and tex mex both, but they're very different. Unless there are real Mexicans in Maine or those other communists states you listed, you're not gonna find any of either.

I've had the best tex mex in San Antonio and the best Mexican in Omaha and ciudad Victoria, tamaulipas.

I laugh when my relatives in my hometown in Nebraska (pop. 6k) want to take me to the local joint for mexican food. Appreciate the thought, but yikes.

I like texmex/northern Mexican food more than some of the options from southern Mexico.

Don't care much for Mexican food in Mexico. ;-). In fact, anything outside loop 1604 in San Antonio is dubious.

I had some great enchiladas at the Dixie Cafe in Cougar, WA. Of course, the owner/cook was from San Antonio.

I recently had some really good Mexican food in New Jersey. I was very skeptical, but overruled by coworkers and ended up being pleasantly surprised.

Still, Texas.

After living in Albuquerque for three years and eating all over the state, I can confidently say that New Mexico doesn't deserve to be on any list with Texas when it comes to Mexican food. Green or red chile on everything is not Mexican food.

New Mexican food is definitely not Mexican food, nor is it Tex-Mex.

But it's damn good in its own right.

The chile-obsession novelty wears off after a month. Thankfully, ABQ and Santa Fe have a spectacular amount of great non-New Mexican food restaurants.

La hacienda is outside/North of 1604.

So is almost every dive Mexican joint in south Texas.
