Facebook user Kimberly Jones uploaded a screenshot of the post, which has been shared more than 62,000 times in less than a day.

The fire department shared this message earlier Wednesday:

As previously stated, we do not condone the recent actions of one of our firefighters. We are following our policy in removing him from our department. This is now a civil/criminal matter that we have no jurisdiction over. Please forward all concerns to local law enforcement and/or the SPCA.

So far the owner of the dogs has not come forward publicly.

Which is still a punishment for this guy. Volunteer firefighters live for that gig. Sitting around drinking beer w your bros...and ALSO put out fires? This isn't Dallas or any big city. These guys have nothing better going on.

But they weren't dangerous. He shot them because they kept coming around his show rabbits. Rabbits that are properly caged aren't going to be "attacked" by dogs.
Call animal control and the police. Have the dogs impounded and their owners fined. Maybe fence your property if you're so concerned.

Dogs get out ball the time. Doesn't give anyone the right to shoot them. He knew they were pets bc he said, "someone didn't listen to my warning."

You cannot shoot dogs. Period. It's against the law.
You call animal control.

It isn't important that he is a firefighter except volunteer or not, firefighters are public servants and expected to act accordingly. This guy didnt.

My brother is close friends w the sheriff in Hunt Co. and everyone has been emailing and calling about this guy getting arrested. haha.

Texas Penal Code 42.09 - Cruelty to Animals states:

(e) It is a defense to prosecution under Subsection (a)(5)
that the animal was discovered on the person's property in the act
of or immediately after injuring or killing the person's goats,
sheep, cattle, horses, swine, or poultry and that the person killed
or injured the animal at the time of this discovery.
(f) It is a defense to prosecution under Subsection (a)(8)
that the actor tripped the horse for the purpose of identifying the
ownership of the horse or giving veterinary care to the horse.
(g) It is a defense to prosecution for an offense under this
section that the person had a reasonable fear of bodily injury to
the person or to another by a dangerous wild animal as defined by
Section 822.101, Health and Safety Code.

So as long as you say it was attacking you or your animals you're fine shooting it.

Statute says nothing about rabbits. And if they are acting aggressively, why weren't the cops called after the first time?

Regardless, the guy's life is ruined if he chooses to stay anywhere in East TX. His name was attached to that screen shot.
