Only time I got slightly nervous was on or about Sept 14th 2001. My Brother and I were sitting in or duplex in Bryan right under the Easterwood flight path...Three days of hearing no planes and all of a sudden a squad of F18s (if I remember right) flys over the house...we both grab our cameras jump in the truck and head to Easterwood....they were the escorts for Texas Task Force One flying to the World Trade Center....with all the threats we had heard about against campus was a little nerve racking....but of course there was a no fly and to see or hear any planes made me nervous.

Nothing like yelling or screaming

I used to travel quite a bit in an old position I had, and the best thing I ever did after work was sitting on the deck of the Hotel del Coronado drinking $55/glass scotch and watching the jets fly in from offshore.

Which one? Last is Blue Angel.

And just back from Valpariso, Florida. F-35s are training there. Awesome. Also, we used to have lots of B-1 flyovers from Abilene a few years ago. THOSE are loud.

When my kids were little we went by Holloman AFB. Parked at the end of the runway to watch F-117s shoot landings. This was before Septempber 11. One probably can't park at the end of the runways these days.

Now, when air shows happened, the C-130 gunships ( "Puff, the Magic Dragon" ) were the tits.
Annoying airplane nerd note, I think that "Puff" was a C-47 (DC-3)

If you're ever in the vicinity of Eglin AFB, visit the USAF Armament Museum. Damned impressive place, with some unique aircraft. One is a DC-3 configured like the early Vietnam era gunships, the DC-3/C-47s were call sign "Spooky". Then they also have the first production C-130 delivered to the Air Force, in the later configuration when it was converted to a gunship. C-130 gunships were called "Specter".

They also have a B-52, B-47, SR-71, the last production B-25 (configured like Col Doolittle's Tokyo plane) and many, many others, including a couple of the awesome F-4s.

And their flag plaza is dedicated to Aggie four-star General Bernard Schriever '31, the father of the Air Force Missile Program, and the first head of the museum board.

As a bonus, the F-35s from Eglin are often overhead.

Could be.

Whatever the nickname for this was:

I thought the AC was Puff (first gen) and then they also called the C-130 that ,too, along with "Spectre".

Whatever it was called, it gave me a woody. Still does. Damn it...have to sit at my desk a little while before getting up.

The Thunderbirds were here for an airshow a few years ago, and they flew very low right above the street by my office. I could look out my ground floor window and see them going by. They couldn't have been more than 500 feet up if that. Still one of the coolest things I've ever seen!

Saw the T-Birds at a USAFA graduation. They do the show low, and you're up high in the stands. So esentially, the fly-bys are at your altitude.

Awesome.

Before retiring my grandfather was chief of combat operations for the sr71 program out kadena/Naha and he use to speak of how a pilot buzzed a Russian war ship in the "beast" as he called it.

I never heard him mention a speed or altitude but he just said damn fast and damn low. He did say the reaction on the Russian ship was comical.

Take off for the sr71. I can't imagine what it would be like to have that thjng going at top speed not too far over head

At Elmendorf AFB in the 80s, we got let out several times in school to watch the older F4s get replaced with F15s.

Yep. Was in elementary school there 84-86. Good times.
