1. There is no fruit in an Old Fashioned!
2. Manhattans and Old Fashioneds can be made with bourbon and they are good, but the true original drink is made with rye.

Old Fashioned:
About 2 tsp simple syrup
4 dashes Angostura bitters
3 oz rye whiskey
Stir.
Add ice--preferably one LARGE cube, or at least not crushed.
Twist of orange peel OVER the glass, and rub around the rim.

If it makes you feel better to have a cherry or orange garnish, fine, but it does not go in the drink!

My go-tos are a basically gin & tonics, super dry martinis and negronis.

That and big glasses of neat scotch.

As you can tell, I like gin.
