I think El Paso is a great place. I'd take living there over Dallas ten out of ten times. I am curious why this thread got pulled up though? 2009 was a long time ago

wasn't a bad place to grow up 1990-2009. Yes you had to realize you were one of a handful of white people and you did experience discrimination (only white kid on the soccer team) because of it, but other than that it wasn't too bad. Housing market is pretty cheap and I think my mom had a 7 minute commute to school (teacher) and my dad had at most a 15 minute commute.

After living in Houston for a short while, I realize that I would trade to live in the middle of nowhere with my family and have a short commute/save money/travel more than be stuck in traffic for an hour (minimum) and have higher expenses.

I do real-estate there and spend abt a week out of every month there.

Last time it took me +30 minutes to get out of the Walmart parking lot like it was a damn concert letting out.

For Mexican food I usually got to Fortis.

The Rib and I loved living in El Paso, when I was stationed at Ft Bliss from 1994 to 1997. Built our first house over on the West Side. We'd probably still be out there if I could have found a job out there when I got out of the Army. Not easy getting a job in construction, in El Paso, when you no habla.

The Walmart in Juarez was cleaner, nicer and less crowded than the one on Mesa.

I love Fortis. Their salsa is hot as hell.

I also really like Julios Cafe Carona near IH 10 @ Zaragoza

If Cleveland Ohio is considered the Armpit of North America, then El Paso is the what I would consider the Taint.

I worked there for about 8 months and I hated it.

Total $h!thole!!! Chicos tacos suck and I really can't see how anyone could ever think that watered down taquito crap tastes good. The people can't drive worth a crap there at least once a day some idiot crashes into the wall or an 18 wheeler on the highway going thru town and shuts down traffic to a crawl. No reason for it other then they try to pull out onto the traffic that is going 80 from a dead stop on the onramp.

It is very common to go some place and have trouble finding someone that can speak English. I was in Target and went to 3 different cashiers before I could find one that spoke English. Look, I can understand if I am at a taco shop in the Barrio and can't find someone that Hablas, but to have to go to 3 different front line, public facing employees to find one that can speak the native language is a bit over the top for me.

The only semi redeeming qualities that the town has is that mountain with the cross on the west side of town that is a nice walk up, it is close to a casino (Sunway, which is really a crappy casino) and I got to watch midget wrestling at a strip club there (this was a travelling show, and I could have seen them in Houston as well, so not really El Paso driven)

I could care less if the entire thing was annexed back into Mexico. I can honestly say if someone offered me double what I make right now to pick up my family and move to that bunghole city I would laugh in their face.

Don't hold back. Tell us how you really feel.

I will have to say that The Rib was taking some Interior Design Classes at UTEP. In one of the classes, a majority of the grade was supposed to be based on your presentation of you designs to the Prof and the class, in English. Several classmates spoke very little English and at least one gave their presentation with her finger in her mouth, and her back to the audience. The Rib was pissed when no one failed the presentation.

El Paso gets no respect. It has become cliche to hate on El Paso. It's lazy and easy banter for people who pander to the stereotype that El Paso sucks. At A&M I never met a person from the metroplex say a positive thing about El Paso. It always seemed to me that everyone who trashed El Paso did so because in some twisted way it was like a way to socially connect with someone. El Paso was an easy place to attack and criticize. No matter where you may live, You make the best of where you are. You live and experience life to the fullest, day after day. A city in itself can only suck as much as the person experiencing it or in this case criticizing it. El Paso has its flaws, so does every place else. I love living In Austin now, but El Paso was good to me & I'll always stand up for it.
People hate on it because it's a sh/t town, plain and simple. I was born and raised there and have nothing good to say about it other than I'm happy when I get to leave.

Sure, the scenery (like. literally, the terrain, not the fat Mexican women) is nice to look at. You can find really good Mexican food. Cheap shopping in Juarez (just better not be a woman going over alone).

I agree 100% with what AggieBarstool said.

I actually promote El Paso. It's a great second choice for people trying to move to Houston.

You are mistaking it for Ft. Stockton, that's a better choice than Houston.
