No verbal commitments for the Aggies this last week

http://swimswam.com/swimswams-college-recruiting-roundup-92815-to-10415/

Texas got verbals from # 5 recruit Claire Adams and #18 recruit Lauren Case

I've heard some rumblings the men may be ready to get in on some commitments soon. Hopefully we'll see some news in the near future.

First one on the men's side.

Adam Koster

20.4/45.5

6'6", just based on his number of times in the USA Swimming database looks like he may have only taken up swimming at a serious level the last 2 years.

Halco Is it that McGregor and Jonker are not swimming for the Aggies this year to prepare for the Olympics? They have not swan this season so far with the team. They are on Aggie Athletics roster but not on the College Swimming website roster.
I also read where Simone Manuel, Katie Ledecky and another top Stanford swimmer is redshirting this year to prepare for next year's Olympics

If they aren't swimming in meets it's possible. Haven't seen anything official. While not ideal, if there's one area the Aggies can hold the fort for a year it's the breaststrokes. They still have plenty of firepower with Caneta, Galat, Gonzalez and McMahon.

There are several high profile men and women around the country who are either redshirting or deferred enrollment. Manuel and Kassidy Cook (diver) at Stanford, Abby Weitzel (Cal) and Katie Ledecky (Stanford) both deferred enrollment, Chase Kalisz and Chantel Van Landeghem at Georgia just to name a few.

Men pick up a top 50 commitment based on the CollegeSwimming.com rankings.

Anthony Kim

48.3/1:45.2 Back
48.5 Fly
Also 20.7/1:40 free and 1:51 IM.

3 strong commits who should be ready to step in at the SEC level individually and on relays. This is as big a fall recruiting season for the men as I can remember in recent history. Really good job by Jay and Jason so far.

Updates on the women's side. This article notes they also have Katie Portz from Ann Arbor Michigan coming next year. 49.3/1:46.8, also had a 48.9 relay split.

Katie Portz

And based on the Louisiana state high school meet results, Amy Miller improved her best time from in the 100 breast from 1:04.34 to 1:03.35 and in the 100 free from 51.79 to 49.97.

Looking at the UIL region meet results, Adam Koster has dropped his bests to 20.17/44.82. Got some quality sprint group action coming to campus next year.

Another huge get for the men. They are definitely looking at a top ten class this year.

Looks like the men will get 5 solid recruits out of the top 100 nationally ranked according to CollegeSwimming.com. (More than any other team in the state) This, in addition to some great transfers, should mean immediate improvement. Excited to see new energy on the men's side! Congrats to Jay and Jason!

Who is transferring?

I had heard some rumors of a particular Texas HS swimmer that was no longer in the B1G conference, headed our way, but nothing public. He'll be swimming in Omaha, in a couple weeks.

Sure hope the B1G rumblings are true. My information was not involving a B1G swimmer but hasn't been made public either. I guess every situation is different, but it seems to me announcing some quality transfers (assuming the rumors are true, of course) would do nothing but build momentum for the men's side.

"Austin Vacek
, a swimmer who once drew an "He's going to make me famous" from University of Texas head coach Eddie Reese, is transferring to Texas A&M University.
Vacek only competed for the Longhorns for one season, the 2013-2014 season, and was removed from the team's official roster shortly after the end of that season. In that one season, however, he was the Big 12 Champion in the 200 IM (1:46.05) and runner-up in the 400 IM (3:47.30)"

Lifetime bests (in yards/LCM):

  • 100 free (46.44/53.72)
  • 200 free (1:40.01/1:57.28)
  • 500 free (4:27.84/4:07.61)
  • 100 back (47.95/56.79)
  • 200 back (1:44.55/2:02.07)
  • 200 IM (1:46.05/2:04.01)
  • 400 IM (3:46.42/4:29.59)

Cory Bolleter shows up on the '16-'17 roster. I see the rest of the impressive freshman class, but where is Ben Walker?

Looking for good things this year!
