Reggie Chevis

Linebacker

Sharpstown (Sharpstown, TX)
Ht: 6-2  Wt: 240

Recruiter: McKinney
Offer: Yes
A&M
(signed)
Chevis had been leaning heavily to Texas A&M lean ever since Kevin Sumlin extended an offer last February. However, the Houston-area defender held off on a commitment while racking up an offer list that included LSU, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Cal, TCU, Missouri, Tech, Washington, West Virginia, Mississippi State, Arizona State and several others. A heavy-headed, 6-1, 247-pound linebacker prospect, Chevis is exactly what Mark Snyder and the Aggies were looking for in the middle. The mid-term grad is a prototypical SEC MIKE ‘backer. He’s physical and flat-out nasty. When Reggie hits opposing ball-carriers they move backwards. He’s a hard-charging, instinctive downhill linebacker who possesses the mentality and requisite size to take on the powerful iso rushing attacks of the SEC. He’s a tough, tough football player who won’t play scared, but actually will relish colliding with the fullbacks and 220-pound tailbacks that dot Southeastern Conference rosters. While Reggie’s physicality at the point of attack is most noticeable on tape, one must see him in person to get a greater appreciation for what a talented athlete he is. Chevis moves exceptionally well for a young man checking in at just under 250 pounds as evidenced by the 11.1 100-meters he clocked on the track last spring. As a junior, Chevis totaled 102 tackles and 12 sacks and was a unanimous 21-4A first-team All-District selection. This fall, the anchor of the Apollos defense earned All-District honors for the third straight season, racking up 83 tackles, 10 sacks, six forced fumbles and five fumble recoveries. He capped off a stellar Sharpstown career by being named to the Class 4A Honorable Mention All-State team and the first team All-Greater Houston squad. With spring ball and a full off-season, Chevis could compete with Donnie Baggs for the starting role in the middle of the Aggies’ 2013 defense.
