The 6-2, 195-pounder is a prototypical SEC safety — a hard-hitting, fast and physical defender who fills running lanes and crushes opposing ball-carriers. He plays with excellent range, instincts and ball skills on the back end. As a junior in 2011, Miles emerged as one of the state’s most heavily-recruited 2013 defensive backs by picking off five passes and recording over 100 stops. He earned 4A second team All-State, Dallas Morning News second team All-Area and 15-4A Defensive Player of the Year honors for his efforts. He committed to Tennessee last spring and also had offers from Arkansas, Kansas State, TCU, UCLA, Miami, Stanford, Oregon State, Tech, West Virginia, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss and Arizona State. He backed up the recruiting attention as a senior with 85 stops, 4 interceptions and 7 pass breakups as a senior. During this past season, Miles also rushed for four TDs on just nine carries. An outstanding student, Miles earned 10-4A first team All-District and All-Region honors while also participating in the U.S. Army All-American game. A look at the 2013 A&M roster heading reveals that it’s an absolute must for one or two newcomers must provide depth or fight for a starting role. Because Miles is already so physically developed and such an outstanding tackler, he’ll have an excellent chance to compete for significant playing time (on defense and special teams) from day one. It’s also worth noting that Miles is an incredibly intense competitor. He’s an intimidator in the secondary.
